How would one allow more current to flow through the circuit to power the ls at full brightness? Not in the rebel body of course...as its plastic... but maybe in a 2 d cell mag...

I assume you'd have to change out one of the resistors..but which one? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hello there,

If i remember right, the Rebel only currently powers
one 20ma LED, so it's not going to work very well
unless you swap the guts to a Zetex ZLT or another
driver circuit.

Take care,
Al

Re: Can LS be run From Brinkmann Rebel Boost Circu

Well there is a resistor in there limiting the current and I was wondering if I swapped the resistor for a lower value if that would let more current flow...enough to power a luxeon star. There are two resistors in there actually.. so I am not sure which one needs to be changed...

Re: Can LS be run From Brinkmann Rebel Boost Circu

Hello again,

Well, sorry to say that the other parts that are designed
to handle 20ma (to maybe 35ma) wont be able to handle
current that is almost 20 times as high (350ma) as with
the Luxeon Star. The transistors and/or ic chips that
power 20ma LED's dont work with 350ma LED's because
they arent designed to work at that higher current.
It's not just the resistor, im sorry to say :-(

There are other circuits you might be able to build
that could handle 350ma. You can do a search on here
for the ZLT circuit if you like. That circuit has been
built by many CPF readers already.

There are also people who build circuit boards so you
can possibly pop one into your flashlight that would
power an LS LED. They visit this site often too.

Take care and good luck driving your LS,
Al

Thanks for the info Al. I didn't give much thought about that. I'll check out the other possibilities you listed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Can LS be run From Brinkmann Rebel Boost Circu

TonyB once posted a circuit that used 2 transistors (and a couple of other components) to perform a direct boost, powerful enough to run a LS. Do a search with keywords "cheap", "simple" "LS". I think the word "2-cell" was also in there.

If all that is too much for you, email me. I saved the thread somewhere on my harddrive.
