Just wondering. Has anyone tried to test fit the M2 LA into an E2? Can it be made to fit simply by cutting down the springs?

Yikes, good question - me thinks it's gonna be an ultra-tight fit/close one. You probably already know this, but for those in the audience who weren't already aware, McGizmo previously retooled a P61 LA to fit into a modified E2e head assembly, which Nascar followed up with a limited offering of modded E2e bezels made-to-order based on Don's work. I believe a small portion of the overall mod involved cutting down the LA spring, along with the other obvious alterations needed.

The end product looked like a stock E2e to me, and was something I now wish I would have taken the opportunity to purchase - you know the story... could've, would've, should've... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif - note to self: don't think, just buy.

I'm curious to see if the MN10 can fit as well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Yes,

I was aware of the E2E+ mod and was wondering about the MN10 because the LA looked more compatible. Well, at least from what I could tell from looking at the pictures on the SF website. Oh well, I guess it'll remain just speculation for now. Thanks!

Hey Wilkey-

Okay, finally had a chance to shoot some pics... this will give a better perspective of that "tight fit" I was referring to:

As a stock E2e bezel, the MN10 bulb fits through the lamp opening without trouble, and is just short of making contact with the pyrex lens... however, as you can see, it would sure take a lot more spring-cutting to get this LA to properly seat in the bezel. Even with an extended battery tube, the lamp itself of the MN10 sits unsecured in the unmodded bezel of the E2e - in short, damage is likely to occur.

Although, I'm sure something could be done with a quality lathe, experienced and skilled hands, and some imagination (which I'm completely lacking... i.e. unqualified in all three areas) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Holy Moley,

Thanks for going through all the effort Jim. I guess you really can't judge proportions from a picture on a website. In any case, doesn't look like a promising enterprise.

Thanks,
Wilkey

Wilkey,

My E2e+ with P61 literally induces disbelief in observers. There's really no need to consider any other lamp. The lamp mod is so simple that even I, a non modder was able to do it but the bezel mod takes more skill than I have and I'm sure it would be easy for you. There were detailed lamp mod instructions available from Nascar, though I don't know if he still has them.

Norm,

I'm attracted by the P61 output but the 17-20 minute runtime seems a bit short to me now. I think I might just go with the MN03 for the E2E bezel. The bezel mod was exactly the part I found daunting.

PS. How goes your lights testing?

Wilkey - you're plenty welcome... besides, it piqued my curiosity as well. Just had to see it for myself... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

BN - if I'm not mistaken, I believe I read one of your reviews on the modded E2e w/P61 - it's basically what has kept my interest in this setup for some time now. (The 17-20 minute runtime is actually fine for my purposes with respect to its intended duties.)

Is the O-ring on the modded E2e bezel a real necessity if I'm not worried about water-resistance? Or is it tied in to some cosmetic fill-in for a gap between the modified bezel head and body? I'd like to have a modded E2e bezel assembly without the O-ring.

I'll go hunting for those instructions via a search... although, I guess I could always beg/grovel Nascar to help me put one together. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just a quick edit here... I found most of the answers to my questions on McGizmo's CPF webpage (very informative).

You may already have found the reference to how to make an E2+. If not, and for others interested, a descriptive thread is here.
