Can you recommend a small Maxpedition pouch/waistpack?

I need a small Maxpedition pouch/waistpack which will stay on the belt when I get in and out of the car or sit down to eat. I don't want to unbuckle my belt and take it off when I drive so it has to not obstruct my seat belt in my compact car. I need it to hold a leather key pouch, thick leather wallet, and car keys. I doubt I can fit my cell phone in with those items.

I'm trying to decide between the following: THREE-BY-FIVE™, FOUR-BY-SIX™, Barnacle, M-2 WAISTPACK, ANEMONE™

I have the 3x5 and the 4x6, and I love them both. I use the 4x6 to haul a first aid kit and the 3x5 for hauling drugs ( legal ). They have a external slash pocket and an external zippered pocket. The inside has a slash pocket on each side of the main compartment. They are as well made and tough as is all of the Maxpedition line.

I have one of these Spec Ops Dry Cells in desert tan:

I LOVE it. It is perfect for me when camping. I put it on the belt that holds my canteen. While hiking, it ends up swiveling to my front(because of the packs hip pads/belt), right below my belly button, and it remains unnoticable hiking with it there. When I go to a hamfest I put it on my regular belt to hold spare batts, MP3 player, etc. to test things before buying. I can wear it comfortably on my left hip, both driving and walking, and even hiking like I mentioned. It stays pretty flat, even when filled. Check it out, sounds like exactly what you might be after.

I have an M2 and it is enormous. The belt slot is also sized for like a 2" belt, so it will move around and slide like crazy on a normal belt. I would not recommend it for belt carry.

shrap, thank you for the feedback, I'm crossing the M2 off my list.

Pokerstud, does the 4x6 slide around on your belt?

Sorry to take so long getting back to you!

Looking at my 4x6 right now, it doesn't have the ability to go on a belt as it lacks loops for that kind of attachment. It has a series of 3 malice straps on the back of it parallel to the 6" length. There are 2 stitchings in the middle of the strips sewn through the back, giving you 2 sets of 3 malice attachment points. I suppose you could belt carry it through one of these sets, but it would ride at 90 degrees on your belt, putting the main zipper compartment to one side or the other instead of on top. ( hope this makes sense, it's a little hard to explain ). I didn't realize this when I bought these, but it didn't bother me as I wasn't planning to belt carry them anyway.

You may want to reconsider the M-2 waistpack, on their website Maxpedition calls the M2- "our smalest modular pocket". I have one and I use it for exactly what you are looking for. It holds my keys, Razor phone, thinnish wallet, a small light and knife. It is used mostly to hold my EDC items when I don't have pockets or don't want to use them; it is also very useful as an organizer/extra storage on or in a larger pack. IIRC , it will accommodate up to a 2.5" belt, you could always stitch it to smaller dimensions. Let me know if you need some pics and I'll see what I can do.

I already have 2 short Malice clips.

I think the 3x5, barnacle, and anemone are smaller than the M-2 waistpack. Does any one have the barnacle or anemone?

The Barnacle is thinner than the M-2. I have a couple of M-2s and the M-2 is a great pouch. The only problem is that it sticks out far enough to sometimes get caught on the arm of a chair. It fits under a seat belt so I can wear it while driving.

Parnass, that is my experience as well. When packed full it will stick out and get caught on stuff. Works great in my truck, but I tend to put a lanyard or a 'biner on it and clip it to my belt loop.

dmz, I still think the M2 is your best bet, Here's a quick pic.....

Thanks for the pic. The M2 does hold a lot but I own a compact car so it will not be comfortable on my belt in the car with the seat belt. The anemone looks like a smaller M2. Can some one comment on the anemone?

The Barnacle is low profile -- only 1.5 inches thick in total. Only half of that is usable for a single item due to the built-in divider. Measure your "thick" wallet because it probably will not fit inside a Barnacle.

I have two anemone pouches. They are great but unless you are using a 2" belt I wouldn't recommend them for belt carrying.

The anemone is 4.5" high, 3.5" wide and 2.5" thick while the M2 measures 5" by 3" by 1.5".
So, the anemone is 1" thicker compared to the M2 and will stick out more than the M2.

Icarus, do the 2 short Malice clips on your anemone pouch cause it to slide around on a 1" belt? Does it slide around when you walk?

Yes, but it may be acceptable to you... I´m travelling but I´ll post a picture when I´m home. :)

Back from vacation...... so, here's the picture I promissed. :)

FYI belt width is 1.5".

Last time I went looking for a new belt pouch the Maxpedition M1 & M2 were recommended to me, and it was a good thing I was able to see them in person before I placed an order anywhere, because they were both too clunky for me. With Maxpedition's rigid construction they're as big empty as they are full, and seemed to me to hold less than a similar sized pouch made out of a more flexible material. The flap over the main pocket on the Maxpedition pouches leaves a gap below it, through which the top part of the contents could be seen from the side, which might be a problem if, like me, you carry a knife in the pouch and work in an office environment where carrying an unconcealed knife could be a violation of the dress code or something.

I always wear a belt pouch and have been through quite a few of them. Currently I'm using a black Eagle Creek pouch I found at REI (http://www.rei.com/product/757666). It holds my KRZR phone, stack of business cards, SOG Night Vision folding knife, Leatherman Supertool 200, ASP Key Defender, 2xCR123 flashlight (looks like my A2 got replaced by P3D Rebel 100 today!), slim cigarette case, 2 spare CR123s, and a notepad & pen. It won't last as long as a Maxpedition pouch will, but it's been over a year and still good. You can see a pic of what I carry
here but I don't have a pic of the pouch. It would definitely hold your leather key pouch, thick leather wallet, car keys, cell phone, and quite a bit more. No problem with seat belts, except it's hard for me to get at my phone quickly while belted in.

And I'm not a Maxpedition hater, I've been carrying a Fatboy Jumbo for over a year.

So if there's a Maxpedition pouch that suits your needs go for it, but if you can, try to handle in person before you order because I couldn't, at the time, find one that worked for me, and I didn't know that until I saw them.
