Can you remove the rubber ring from L5?

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the rubber ring from the L5? I do not want it on mine (when I eventually get it). I wonder if it can be removed without damaging it. If not, I will probably try anyway, but I want to know if anyone here has done it successfully and if so, then how. Thanks for any input.

The Grip can be removed but it leaves an ugly rebated arrangement in which it locates exposed. I have a photo at home I will email you if nobody posts a photo beforehand.
