I have never understood candle power claims by manufacturers. Take Proxenon for example: they claim 5 million CP for the 995 flashlight. Yet they have a beam diagram showing the illuminance to be 1 lux at a maximum distance of 360m. Correct me if I am wrong, but to me 1 lux at 360m means a MBCP of 360x360 Cd. That is 129.6 kCd, not 5,000,000 Cd! 129.6 kCd is only 2.6% of 5,000,000 Cd. How did they arrive at the figure of 5 MCd??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif Anyone out there can shed light? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Sure, I can shed light--it's marketing!

Two other 1MCP spotlights--a now-sold Brinkman MaxMillion measured about 65kCd and my Banana (Vector 137CO) measured at about 100kCd.

Most flashlight Cd/lux/CP ratings are off--some by a lot. Many manufacturers use the lumen rating of the lamp, not the finished assembly, for their published ratings. I believe UKE and perhaps SL do that.

Cheers,

Richard
