I'm looking for a bed side search/defence light with a decent flood
so far I'm stuck on the
fenix tk35
Eagle tac g25c2 mkii
nitecore srt7
nitecore ea4
i want them all but not an option just now
have any of you had a chance to compare any of these lights??
 
The options you list use different battery sources (AA, CR123A/RCR123, 18650) so I assume you are okay/comfortable using each type? Out of the options you list, here is what I would go for and my brief reasons.

I would choose the Eagletac G25C2 MKII. Eagletac has very nice tints (imho), have a number of options/accessories (diffuser/color lens filters). You have the ability to run an 18650 or 2 CR123A/RCR123 batteries. Beam has good mix of throw and spill. And it's size is a good medium for what it offers.

Fenix would be the next choice but it is much bigger and I am not a fan (personal preference due to safety reasons) of using 2 18650 batteries.

Nitecore does make some nice lights and are trying things that other light makers are currently not. The SRT7 is a nice decent size as well. I am just not sold on their quality control (see: D11/E11 battery drain issues, E-series battery drain issues/mode issues, or even the button balloon issue on the current EA4 with minimal heat). Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of Nitecore's designs. The D10 was a classic, liked the 2nd version of the EZAA with the XP-G R5 emitter, and loved the EC1 (excellent throw in a crazy small package..but needed my first to be exchanged due to the issues already listed).
 
I would have to say the flashlight that I own which is a jetbeam bc20. It's 300 lumens on high and 20 or 25 lumens on low. I have had it for about a month and I love it.

If your use case includes "defense", you must choose a light that will be extremely simple and foolproof to use under stress, and has good spill. I have the TK35 and others very similar to your choices, yet keep a SF LX2 by the bedside because it's utterly reliable, foolproof, and gives just the right amount of peripheral illumination to see the whole tactical scene.

The TK35 is a great search light, but it's not tactical by any stretch of the imagination. Same for the EA4, great little light but not one you can reliably use in the confusion and intense stress of a home invasion or other assault. Your other choices are better, but have too many features to be reliable in an actual self-defense situation, unless you train a lot with them under realistic and stressful scenarios.

I have the nitecore srt7 its nice but the v-ring is finicky.Self defense light should be a simple click with no fumbling,especially in a bump in the night situation.I have a klarus xt11 by the bed one click and bam some would argue to much light for unadjusted eyes but I like it.
 
I find it interesting that you specify "decent flood" in your original post, and then proceed to list lights that are mostly designed for throw...

Are you really looking for flood, or do you want a thrower that has some flood on top of that? To me, those are different questions.

If you really do want flood, and one of the above lights, I would recommend the Eagletac G25C2 Mk II and the flip-up diffuser. I have that and the SRT7. The SRT7 is blinding indoors, since the hotspot is so intense. With the diffuser, the Eagletac is much more friendly to the user, while allowing a MUCH more pleasing even flood. If you blast someone in a dark room, I think it would be more than adequate to blind them, without doing the same to you. And you would have a much clearer picture, because it will light up EVERYTHING in front of you, not just a cone of light.
 
Jetbeam BC-40 Has two levels simple twist head with tail click on/off. Very bright on hi like 840 lumens. Good flood as well as spot. Uses dual 18650. have had zero issues with it over 2 yrs.
 
Thanks guys i think I'm sold on the eagletac g25c2 mkii. Does anyone own one with the extra extensions is it worth the extra 40 quid??
 
I don't own any extenders, because I don't see the point. With a 3400 mAh cell, the G25C2 will last well over an hour even if you keep it on turbo - more likely, it will either step down or you will use it on lower modes, and in either case your runtime will more likely be several hours. The only benefit of an extender is longer runtime, and you can just carry a spare cell and swap it out in 15 seconds when the first one goes. If you have money to burn, buy something else...anything else.

Still curious to know whether you are looking for a thrower with flood, or a dedicated flooder. Either way, the G25C2 with diffuser should fit the bill.

^This for simplicity & reliability. My Surefire 9P with Malkoff M91A drop-in serves as my bedside emergency floodlight. Bright, floody, and idiot-proof :o

Also, Surefire is releasing the P3X Fury soon. Something to consider.
 
Hi I'm looking for something that can throw 1-200 meters with a decent spill. Does anyone know if u can replace the bezel on the eagle tac I would like a nice sharp one like on the tk22
