There are no eneloops local to me. Where can I find eneloop AA's or equivelant from another brand online for cheap. I need to get at least 40.
I am not hung up on the brand, but I need a rechargeable that will hold a charge a long time for window alarms and various seldom used flashlights.

Where are you located? (Hint: you have no location in your profile.)

Do you have a Fry's near you? In which case Hybrios are $9.99/4 are a good deal. I find Hybrios work just like Eneloops.

If you go online you can get quantities of genuine Eneloops at $8.55/4 from Battery Junction.

I order my Sanyo Eneloops from depoteco.com Be sure to register and login. Mention you're a CPF member and use discount code: cpfgreen.

There is no Fry's, Cosco, or Circuit City where I live (rural PA).

Amazon has 24 tenergy pre-charged AA's at $26 shipped. I went with this, much cheaper than eneloops. Basically 1/2 the price. I had good luck with Tenergy 3.0V RCR123's so hopefully these will be good.

Is there a Walgreen's near you? Check out this thread and then you can run over to Walgreens and find some Duraloops. Pay close attention to the colors on the individual cells and you should find what you need.

And likely half the quality.

I looked into those at one point as well and there is an amazing lack of third party testing information on those cells.
What I have found is that they have a fairly high self discharge rate for a LSD battery.

Tenergy commonly overstate capacity....the R2U cells are rated as 2300 mAh for AA, but will more likely be 1900 mAh or possibly lower.

I opted to get Eneloops and Rayovac Hybrids.

HH Gregg near me has Eneloops for 4 / $7.99 for AA or AAA.

Target, Walgreens and Kroger have the Duraloops.

Target also has the ROV Hybrids.

Amazon and Thomas Distributing also sell Eneloops online.

Just remember . . . .

When you buy the Duracells (DuraLoops),

make sure they have the White Tops (the round plastic spacer),

-- and --

Make sure the back of the package sez: "Made in Japan".

Then, you can be assured they are identical to Eneloops.

Good Luck !

Dear Black Rose and others,

I have 24 pieces of the Tenergy "R2U" low self discharge batteries in AA format since this past summer, and they have performed very well. However, I have not done any systematic testing on them, and neither do I have an advanced charger that will calculate capacity based on time and a known discharge rate. That said, these Tenergy R2U batteries seem to perform just as well as some Rayovac Hybrid AAs and also some Durcell Precharged (white cap, made in Japan version) Eneloop-equivalents that I have, at least for me.

I agree there does not seem to be much systematic testing out there for these Tenergy R2U batteries, and I would sure like to see some as they seem to be a decent deal. Right now, they are offering 24 pieces of AA format for $20, and I am tempted to order another batch.

On CPF -

Tenergy vs Eneloop (AA and AAA) 30 day self-discharge

Also FWIW -
Post #5 (link) in the thread - Slowest Discharge AA and AAA Nimh please?, I cant decide at forums.all-battery.com has an overview comparison of Tenergy ready to use [R2U] with eneloops, Maha Imedion, RoV Hybrid (and Uniross Hybrio - which the poster says are the same as RoV, but please also see the thread by Mr Happy Uniross Hybrios are Eneloops...? ).

Caveat - reviews at All-Battery.com appear to be "paid for".

Isn't All-Battery.com the retail front end for Tenergy?

Looks like it.

Note what the poster in that post I linked to ( #5 ) said about reviews on all-battery.com.

Personally I'd buy eneloops as first choice - then any confirmed re-badges like DuraLoops.
Kodak Pre-Charged used to have a price advantage at the previous WalMart price of $7.99
(and that was when LSDs were relatively "new")
but not now at $8.99 -
especially when one can get eneloops at the reported $7.99 at HH Gregg -
and occassionally DuraLoop can be had on sale at as low as $9.99 -
combine with the now scarce $2 instant off coupon attached makes them as low as $7.99.......
