I am planning on a Cree MCE build up and am looking at the Carclo 26.5mm optic (#10391 13 degree FWHM) Cutter offers. Anyone have experience with these an care to comment?

In choosing a holder for it Cutter shows two basic holders (with legs and without legs). However the photos appear similar. What is the diffinition of "legs" if not the posts that extend down?

I think the legs to position the holder and optic would be needed so am opting for the #10497, however the pull down menu does not list that option.

I emailed Cutter clarify but no response back yet and so hoping someone here can answer or that Cutter picks up this thread.

I do not know how to post a photo here but you can see the photos at:
http://www.cutter.com.au/products.php?cat=47
26.5 mm holders #10439 is without legs and #10497 is with legs.

How does one postition the holder if there are no legs?http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/images/smilies/thinking.gif

Thanks in advance.

Carclo isn't very accurate about product pictures.

On carclo.co.uk, the description for p/n 10439 reads:

Holder for the Cree MC range in Black with 0.00mm long legs not very easy to mount as no location to LED
But it shows the same picture as Cutter. In fact, the Cutter picture is hotlinked from carclo.co.uk.

I think I would get the one with legs.

The latest Carclo datasheet on the optics and holders is here:
http://carclo-optics.co.uk/catalog/documents/Cree_Datasheets_15_8.pdf

page 29 has the basic info on the different 26.5mm optics versions as well as some decent drawings of the optics holders.

page 30 has part numbers for the different versions of holders. I'll admit that I have no idea what distinguishes the 4.3 peg, the 2.0 peg, and the 0.8 peg versions from each other.

page 31 gives the specs for the different optics. For instance, it says that the #10391 optics have a FWHM of 15.2 degrees instead of 13 degrees.

page 32 shows the recommended board dimensions for mounting the optics holder. In this drawing, they show a 4mm hole for each leg.

regards,
Steve K.

I was able to get contact with Ben Riley from Cutter and found the legged holders were just out of stock and would come in soon so I guess I can now place my order with the 10497 holders.

Thanks all,
David
