Just received 10 of these card lasers with twin LEDs and, since I hadn't seen them in person before, thought you might like a few pictures:

First impressions of these card lasers:

All units functioned: lasers (red) and LEDs. (three of the lasers had minor artifacts which disappeared after dismantling and re-assembling one of the cards).

They are light-weight.

The lasers are all crisp and bright with small footprints. The LEDs are bright.

The actuation buttons are momentary only. They give positive click feel and auditory click sound when pressed firmly.

They disassemble with a flat-bladded screw driver used on the flip side access door.

They fit my hand and make actuation and aiming easier and more precise than the tubular laser/LED.

The logo imprint surface came with a thin film to resist scratching until sold.

Each unit came with a black synthetic sleeve.

The entire unit slips nicely into my Levi's watch pocket with only a finger-width protruding from the pocket.

These were samples. I have no idea what the imprint (which is on the face of each one of the ten), "EX DIAMOND WARRIOR '06" means or relates to.

Cool, thanks. Is there any hint of a manufacturer? I'm assuming it's a 5mW red laser?

I received these directly, fedx out of Shenzhen to Oregon 4 days, from the manufacturer: greatfine. Amy, in sales took very good care of me. They actually enrolled in paypal just to accomodate me.

Yes, they are 5mw.

They could have made that unit half the size. So much space between all of those components.

I smell a GB!!!

Buy 1,000 and, including shipping, they land in this country for under one dollar each. However, customs is an issue plus the laser warning label is missing.

My small bundle had no commercial value because they were not for resale, they are samples only.

That being said, the manufacturer is extremely easy to work with. I want a titanium version, using CREE LEDs and a 5mw green laser. I wonder if someone here can design a better card laser/LED? Something from the top drawer. Something that could generate pride in ownership.

Inexpensive is also good though.

What if you build each half as a printed circuit?

I really like the rectangular form factor. Why not make a much more robust model, except for the obvious tubular battery problem, and throw some real light. Perhaps cell phone batteries would enable this design to grow beyond the trinket phase. Flat and rectangular ends the roll-a-way tubular flashlight issue.

Awesome! I'll get 20 if we do a GB! Stick a new label on them and they'd make great promotional gifts at Xmas for clients! (especially @ $1 each!)

I like your enthusiasm. And, I really like a bargain.

Two hurdles come to mind with importing these that could interfere with the price and success of a GB: 1. w/o the warning labels they could be seized upon entry, and 2. Customs paperwork and tariff.

I am no expert regarding lasers and labeling issues. In fact, I am not even a novice.

Ask Unforgiven about customs issues or read the Jetbeam thread in the GB forum. He encountered substantial customs fees and issues. However, he was able to eventually overcome the money and administrative problems.

I'd be in for a couple. I'll stay tuned to this thread to see how it pans out.

I don't see anything here to indicate a big demand for these. If they were CREE LEDs and green lasers then oh baby oh baby but, at this point, they are not.

There is no real need for a GB with these gizmos unless you enjoy the thrill of a gamble (seizure risk + customs taxes and charges). The ten I received only cost $4 each: $1.50/unit + $25 fedx = $40/10 units = $4 each.

DX is advertising a somewhat similar, card laser with double LEDs, unit for $4 delivered. Ask and you shall receive.
