So I've stripped off the cerakote using 120 grit sandpaper. it's done a great job and removed just enough. Here's some photos of so far. I plan on buying some 400 and 800 grit, followed by 1200 and then steel wool tomorrow for a mirror polish. Or i may get her super smooth and then brush her off for a matte/brushed finish.

Done and dusted! I finished with 0000 grade steel wool.

This is a much nicer finish and i believe it's actually unique in design

Nice! I have a bare AL EDC and was gonna do the steel wool brush to it... You do it by hand just turning it or on a lathe? Did u coat it with anything after? I hear itll tarnish bad if not? Maybe clear laquer spray or some wax of some sort?

Thanks guys! I agree Ben the black bands make it look pretty cool. I wanted all 6 black bands but I couldn't remove the cerakote neatly enough on the ends and ended up having to take them both off.

mtbmurf - I did it all by hand and it's well worth the effort. You just have to stay consistent and circular. Wear a dust mask for the high grits of sanding and steel wool. I haven't finished the coat with anything but maybe a wax to seal it from tarnish. So. Far she hasn't tarnished yet.

Glad to be some help Prime. Post some pictures here if ever you polish or change the finish on your edc.
