I hope this is not TOO dumb a question. My Sears tv headset takes 3 AAA NiCads. I'd like to charge 3 at a time in my new LaCrosse BC900 charger (got it yesterday). The manual doesn't talk about a configuration like that. Can I do it do you think?

Yes sir....no problem. I have 2 of the BC-900's, good chargers. I recommend that you make sure it has firmware rev. 33 though. Less problems than v32 had.

You can charge 1, 2, 3, or 4 batteries at a time.

You can mix and match any combination of AA and AAA cells.

You can charge cells of different capacities at the same time too.

The BC-900 uses 4 independent channels, one for each battery.

You can also set each battery to different charge rates if you wish.

Thanks. But the only thing that looks like a version level on the unit is: 'Made in china 8N7 V12 U'. Do you have to look inside to discover the firmware version?

when you just plug it in, the display will show a number quick, in the right of the display, as its "booting up" that is where (i think) they get the version number.

also you can just pull the plug out of the back and push it back in , and that will "reset" it showing that number.

i still use a 32 version, havent seen any problems YET. . . . but you know how that goes.

like he said, it will gladly charge only 3 of 4 cells, or 1 or anycombo as its seperated channels, if you set it correctly, you can even be charging AAAs and AAs at the same time, you just want to make sure that you set the rate for each appropriatly.

Yes, when it is first powered on, it will flash 3 pairs of numbers in the display.

The first two are the thermister values which correlate to the temperature cutoff points somehow, and the 3rd (right hand side) will be the firmware version number. It will be either 32 or 33....you want 33.

The biggest change between the versions (32 vs. 33) was that they lowered the thermal cutoff point on the v33 to about 127'F or about 53'C (positive about the v33 cutoff point). I think on the v32 it was about 145'F cutoff (not positive about the exact cutoff point for the v32).

They had a few meltdowns and some complaints that the batteries got a bit too hot when charged on the 1500mA and 1800mA rates with the v32 firmware.
