I bought few Tenergy RCR123A 3V cells from group buy for my P2D and just learned that ONLY original Tenergy Charger can be used to charge these cells.

Has anybody tried using other chargers (like WF139) to charge these 3V Tenergy cells and is it alright?

It seems not worth it 'cos the shipping cost to my place is $23 whereas the cost of charger pack from B J is $28.

I e-mailed batteryjunction before. I lost the e-mail but the Jeff from BJ did not advice the use of another charger with the Tenergy battery.

I'm Assuming these are the "voltage regulated" 3.0V cells (3.7V cells with a diode or something on em), in which case, it's probably best to go with the charger recommended for the cells as there may be differences from one "3.0V" cell to another in the way they need to be charged. All it would take is a slightly different type of "voltage reducing" circuit to change the charging requirements.

I suspect we've been over this question before, but that thread is probably lost to time. Here goes: The 3.0v ic regulated batteries typically need 4.4v from the charger for best results. You could use the WF-139, but it wouldn't fully charge your cells. For another $5, you could have the correct charger AND more batteries.

I've seen variations is tech sheet data from one "3.0V" cell and charger to the next. Enough variation to concern me, a charger designed for a cell that needs 4.5V would destroy a cell that needs 4.4V :poof:

I got my tenergy 3v900mah + charger kit today. I didn't play them them too much but my ultra fire charger didn't charge the tenergy batteries correctly. This could be due to a faulty charger because i have problem charging my 3v soshine batteries too. FYI The the 900mah battery is a little longer then my 650mah soshine 3v battery.

In that case I guess I really need to buy the 3V tenergy charger, despite the shipping cost which is nearly as much as the kit itself. I only blame myself living so far away!

Thanks everybody.
