I know China has a reputation for foregoing safety in lieu of cost effectiveness but as far as materials, lubricants, coatings are concerned, do cheap China-made flashlights pose a health threat in anyway?

No more than any other product from any emerging manufacturing power.

It is not the lights themselves that are the problem, it is the CHEAP RUBBISH CELLS that come with them. There have been numerous reports of cheapo Chinese cells blowing up - some quite recently - and people are lucky not to have been seriously injured. Some of these cells are falsely labelled with reputable brand names. A good rule of thumb is that if the cells are for sale on eBay, don't buy them.

By all means buy cheap lights. Sometimes they can be good value, although don't expect too much of them - you get what you pay for - but NEVER economise on cells.

Good point. It just isn't worth the risk for the small money saved.

Somewhere here, there is a concern that could be explored. However, the manner and presentation of the question, as presented, is patently offensive.

Approached in that manner, it would best be handled in the Underground. Thread closed.
