Cheap Good NiMh Batteries

Are my batteries frying? I six of these 1800 mah AA dynacells on a Maha C777 charger. They've been charging at 8.6V for 177 minutes and the charging current is reading 2430mah and rising!!. The temperature cutoff hasn't reached the 123 degree limit yet but they feel warm. According to Maha, the charging current is typically 10-15% higher than the battery rating but I'm way past that (2070mah). The voltage just dropped to 8.5V. At the charging rate of this charger, 800mah, they should have been done in 155 min's max. Should I take them out. My DMM is broken so I can't really test them unless I discharge them and use the discharge current function of the charger.

Well, I've had the batteries a few days now. Initially I was a little worried about them. They are 1800 mah, but didn't take much of a charge. But, I deep cycled a set a couple of times and now they seem to be pretty good. I had a couple sets of 1600 mah Nexells before. They would last for almost 24 hours in one of my radios. I tried the new ones and they went for at least 20 before the low batt warning starts showing. For the price, they are great. I'm hoping with a few more cycles, they'll be even better.

Thanks to Tator, I received the Duracell rechargeables. I charged 4 AAA and 4AA yesterday. Couple of them stopped charging early but I re-started the charger and they took full charge.

I'm running 2 AAA in my Palm and 2 AA in MadMax. I will drain them and recharge them but so far they seem to be holding fine.

Before charging, I checked some AA and they did not have much charge. This is to be expected as they are normally shipped in discharged state.

How did the batteries come when you received them? Were they in a bulk pack in quantity blocks? Or just individual batteries all wrapped together in a box?

Ah, okay;
That's one big bag 'o batteries! Wonder if that caused the shipping carrier any raised eyebrows..

When I got the batteries they were in bags of 100 for the AA's, the AAA's were all in a bag together. They were not individually wrapped or anything, jsut a big bag of 100.

I suppose it is possible but difficult to get random AA or AAA cells in a box to form a "short curcuit chain circle".

On the other hand, if you have bunch of 9 volts there, they would most definitely weld to each other!
