Cruzing on eBay, I've noticed a plethora of really cheap lights direct from Asia.

Question to the group:

Which ones are good, bad, and everything in between? What have your experiences been with the Luxeon lights from Hong Kong? Some of the "dualies" (LED/Xenon) look interesting.

Based on the feedback reviews from purchasers, most are satisfied.

I've seen Different versions of the MXDL in 1w and 3w Luxeons. Also noticed a brand "Police" with several versions as well.

For thess than $20 for a 3w Luxeon delivered to da door... is it too good to be true?

shop around the B/S/T forum there are a few that sell stuff there... also check the review forum, many people buy these lights at times and check them out. Usually when things get too cheap there is a price, but sometimes they are a better bargain with the quirks they have because of the cheapness.

I have the newer design MXDL 3 watt LED flashlight. It will run about 10 minutes before the batteries drain to a point where the light does not keep a steady beam. It is unregulated and when there isn't enough juice it just gets dimmer and has a constant flicker.

I've read another members review of this light and he said his broke the day he got it. If you don't mind changing the batteries every 10 minutes then it's a nice light /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi, Mr. Zenon.

I do see this lights often selling on the street in HK, at some really unbelievably low prices.

I guess the saying of 'you pay what you get' is exceptionally true here for many of these lights--given labor and material cost of making flashlights in China are just super low compared to many countries, there is a good reason why they are so inexpensive--as to suit the local/surrounding markets. Of course, the tradeoff is the really average(or sometimes even mediocre) production with few surprises.

On the other hand, since many of them use popular settings for batteries, 3XAA(in a cylinder), 2AA, 2X123, 1X123...etc, and some material used is somewhat ok/decent. They are really great hosts for modding/experiments since you won't feel really that bad if you messed one or two up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
