I've built a luxeon [yeah, old school I know :(] based walkway lighting that is powered by a AC-DC power supply that feeds exactly 5V at 1 amp. Turns out iomega adapters are more regulated than any other wall wort I have came in contact with.

The adapters plugged into a switched AC outlet out in the workshop. Whenever I need to operate machinery I'd engage the power, when I leave I turn it off. I installed these suckers because the "walkway" that leads to the side door is currently a "out-of-the-rain" storage area thats pretty tricky to maneuver around. Currently its manually engaged by a switch beside the door, but sometimes I forget to turn that switch on at night and wind up having to mouth a flashlight when heading back.

I'm looking at this guy's invention: a single LED light running off a 9V battery and has a sensor to turn it off in daytime and on at night.

My LEDs are wired 5 in parallel with resistor stepdown
Vin: +5VDC, LEDs are 3.5V@<200ma each

Can I change any components to adapt to the schematic above?

The guys invention thingy is dusk-to-dawn circuit. I'll take a look to see if I can find one on the internet but, it's a simple design and I'm sure someone here can provide you with it.

well I can buy dusk to dawn circuits but they are typically for AC circuits. I haven't been able to find one DC based.
soldering's half the fun when it comes to homemade, so I dawned on this circuit, with parts readily from radioshack. Sure its a wee bit expensive, but its good to have a friend that werks there

i've used this circuit for 4.5v and one 3w led running about 2w. i think i tried something like the one you show but got flickering i didn't like. found this on the web maybe from a pdf, can't find the original source now.
