Cleanser?

I am not sure what thread I should post this question in so here goes... I had a NimH D - Cell batt discharge inside the body of my rechargeable. It left residue inside the body of the flashlight and I would like to clean it up if I could. Is there a product on the market that would enable me to do this, or maybe a technique you could share? The body of the light is aluminum. Thanks...

I wonder if some sort of vinegar solution would work on battery gut residue. It seems like a kind of mineral-type deposit. Never tried it - just a thought.
