Hey does anyone own or know what the coleman key fobs are? Its like a keychain lantern with a led bulb in it. What i want to know is, are the batteries it uses common and cheap? and is the thing any good? Thanks

If you're referring to the little red Coleman LED lantern that I threw in a toliet, it's probably a POS and you ought to stay away from it. I thought I had it on my website, but I can't seem to find it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
I think it uses two or three LR44 button cells...I just took mine down off its hook and took the bottom off; it uses two cells labelled GP189. They appear to a bit thinner than LR44 cells. I think GP189 cells are identical to LR54 cells. And I honestly don't know where you can find these.

Checked it out on your site, Craig. You might be able to use it as a Xmas decoration! Sure looks like one a flashaholic might have on his tree!
The best experience I had with one of those was giving it to my dad as a memory maker for a camping trip the two of us did out west...he really appreciated it a lot (still has it on his desk 10 years later)...though not as a light!

I've seen these in the camping section of Wal-Mart.
Almost bought one because it was cute looking, but
after looking at Craig's review, I think I'll pass.
Now if they'd used an amber LED, it might've seemed
a little brighter and sort of simulated the look
of an actual lantern when lit... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I bought one because I wanted the red LED to use in a marker light. Interestingly, it was cheaper to buy this than it was to get a red LED from **** Smith's Electronics. I was going to crack the top off and drop it in to a translucent film canistor with the can lid sprayed with a chrome paint as a start, with some further mods for the battery pack later on. But it got lost in my junk box because around that time, I also got hold of my Krill lights.
In its "as sold" form, it is rather sad and quite pointless. The cells can usually be found anywhere they stock cells for scientific calculators. In my case, a couple of local chemists.

wow, thx for warning me craig, i was gonna buy one for xmas too...seems like a super waste of money.
