Stan,

Sorry, but you cannot increase the number of Luci that you will get. I've already ordered the spheres based on the indications of interest.

I'll leave your order at one large knurled brass with 18mm Blue sphere and a flat-top tailcap.

Yeup! I'm definitely still interested - excited, actually.
However, for some reason I'm listed as a brass guy; I'm definitely a lightweight (as any good drinker could tell you), so I'll go with aluminum.

So I'd like to modify my order to a small alumnium with small green sphere.

Thanks!

Re: Closed: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Hard to believe, but I did work on a Luce today for quite some time. Of course, I enjoy my time on the lathe, but after a while you get too tired to continue. However, that just means that I have time to post some pics, my next favorite lathe work.

These are build photos for a large, 6061AL Luce.

ALLuceThreads.jpg

Those threads came out particularly well--I tried a different cutting fluid that might of helped, or I just got lucky.

ALLuceGrooves.jpg

Pretty tedious turning the grooves, but precise location is important.

ALLuceDimples.jpg

And now that I have some nice 1mm ball nose end mills, I can drop down to the smaller sized dimples, which fit the width of the remaining faces much better than the 1.5mm did.

This will be a two-tone version, so I still need to sand, polish, and resand the surface; and, I need to make the polycarbonate tailcap, too.

Some more build pics, to help keep the popcorn consumption high.

CheckingThreads.jpg

For this run, I'm trying to be more consistent from Luce to Luce, so I am now using a thread plug that I made for the large Luci to check each piece to ensure that it can at least fit this plug. That's a Ti Luce that I was making the last two days.

DblDimplesClose1.jpg

For this piece, I decided to try a slightly different styling, with an extra row of dimple, but near the tailcap.

BoreLensOpening.jpg

Once all the dimples are in place, the Luce is parted off and then the light exit bore is performed, along with some bevels to remove the sharp corners.

TiLuceDone2.jpg

The completed Ti Luce body--just need to machine the tailcap, and sand and polish the body.

Re: Re-Opened--8 Luci Up for Sale: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Last Chance -- For a Luce in 2008!

I managed to extract some more spheres from Bart, so I now have eight Trits that can be installed in your choice of Luce de Notte.

Please see post number 1 for more details.

Not only is Bart sold out of Trit spheres, but this build will be my last one for 2008.

1. Yessir
2. Quite
3. Nada
4. Large grooved two-tone 6061AL, green 18mm Trit sphere, flat-top tail

:santa:

PF -

sorry but can you please change mine to a domed-top tail? everything else the same, so:

4. Large grooved two-tone 6061AL, green 18mm Trit sphere, domed-top tail

i wanted it to "tailstand" but really theres no point, and i like the way the domed-top feels in the hand and how it glows when upright. thanks, thats my final answer!

Re: Re-Opened--2 Luci Up for Sale: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

I'm sure there is a better way to photograph knurling, I just don't have the time to figure it out.

Must admit that the warmth of brass, combined with the ease of cutting it, makes it a great material to work with. And for a Luce, the extra weight is simply not a problem. :D

Today's session yielded this--straight from the lathe, not polished yet, so it looks a bit ragged, but the points are nice and sharp:

Re: SOLD OUT: Second CPF Run: Luce de Notte

Just a quick update to let everyone know that despite the melt-down in world markets, work goes on at the Luce de Notte workshop. :D

Most of the machining on the bodies is done--I'm hoping to finish them this weekend. Then I'll be making the tailcaps, cutting down the reflectors, and finally installing the Trits in the reflectors before the final assembly. With a little bit of luck, the Luce de Nottes might get done this October.
