Could a M1 or 3DL be moded to a visable light

I've been looking into getting a LED light to run used 123's in. I really like the style of the SF M1 and older 3dl. Has any one tired to replace the LED in these with a visable light LED? Could it be done? Any thoughts.

Maybe the M1 can support the KL1 LED module?

I'm not wanting to change the head though. I would like to put a LED in the M1 head. As I understand it the light has a IR LED in it. I may be mistaken on this but that is what I gathered on the net. I have not seen a M1 in person. My thoughts are seperate the head, swap IR LED with white LED, reglue head. What do you think?
