Right, as of today, I think it's about time we set up a thread on this forum every three months or so in which everyone votes on/recommends what they believe to be the best (for the money or not) flashlight/s available.

The main purpose of this thread is just to keep a reference open for anyone wanting to come and have a quick look to see what is the best on the market at any one time, according to the members of a forum of people that clearly know pretty well what theyre talking about.

To be the most use for anyone I think we should all make one
recommendation for each of four main categories:

1. Keychain or other small pocket carry.

2. EDC, preferably single cell.

3. General/tactical use, so anything from an LD20 to a single relatively small 18650 light. Basically something small enough to be slipped into a pocket if need be, but bright enough to be useful on it's own outside.

4. Serious outdoor use, e.g. search and rescue or suitable for military applications, something that definately wouldnt fit in your pocket, but is bright enough to put out a wall of light.

Anyway, that's the rules, so let's get voting :twothumbs

I'll start us off:

1. Nitecore EZCR2

2. Nitecore D10

3. Fenix TK20

4. Fenix TK40

Quark Ti Mini 123

McLuxIII Ti PD-S

Surefire C2 with Malkoff M61

Maelstrom S1800 (if you like flood) or Olight SR90 Intimidator (if you like throw)

I'm obviously correct, so there's no point in voting.

Fantastic idea, +1!!!
Should it be in the form of a poll with comments, poll without comments, or just open thread format?

Well, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by a poll, I can't set up a proper one because of the amount of options available. But I was thinking everyone could simply post a simple recommendation for each category as I and some others have done already.

Though if you'd like to add some comments to exactly why you've made a particular choice then feel free, as long as it isn't a full blown review, try to keep it short and sweet!

1. ITP A3

2. Streamlight Microstream

3. ITP A1

4. Tesco own label twin C cell :D cheap as chips but got some power.

Trouble is, everybody's going to say different lights.

For instance:

Keychain or small: RAW SS 20/200
EDC: ARC 6
Tactical or general use: Nitecore SR3
SAR light: Thrunight Catapault.

Lets face it - we just like making lists.

You've been talking to my wife haven't you...:poke:

BTW - McNair - I agree the Tesco 2C has some power, but it also has a lot of flicker and not in a good way. Also I could never forgive Lady Porter.

Nitecore EZCR2 (haven't crushed a battery yet despite all the complaints) I'd love to try a L2FX2 with XP-G though!

2. EDC, preferably single cell.
Fenix P1D is what I carry but it's discontinued.
3. General/tactical use, so anything from an LD20 to a single relatively small 18650 light. Basically something small enough to be slipped into a pocket if need be, but bright enough to be useful on it's own outside.
Eagletac T20C2 in overcoat pocket all winter. Hope to replace it with the XP-G model soon.
4. Serious outdoor use, e.g. search and rescue or suitable for military applications, something that definately wouldnt fit in your pocket, but is bright enough to put out a wall of light.
Fenix TK40

everyone will have extremely extremely varying opinions, so, it just might mean that a light with only 5 votes might win.

neither does/will everyone vote. nor do they have experience with every single light on the market.

I don't think these type of threads are truely meaningful.

1. Quark Mini AA (Al or Ti) XP-G R5

2. Preon II or Quark AA Tactical NW

3. Surefire LX2

4. Surefire LX2 (Yes, I know you said something that definitely wouldn't fit in a pocket for #4, but I don't think something needs to be nearly that big to be of serious use outdoors.)

I also agree with this, it's not really meaningful in any way in terms of there being an "award" and it's certainly not statistically meaningful. But it is interesting to see other people's favourite lights to get a general idea of what people are enjoying using for different purposes.

- I agree the Tesco 2C has some power, .

Sorry to go off topic - but it's easy to make it a real thrower with some cheap parts from a well known store in HK.
