I'll have to meet you there as I will be coming from work and won't make it there before six. Only bringing a couple of lights and a REALLY warm coat.

My favorite bit of the evening was just as we got outside as I was using my single XR-E light and some lady said " That's a bright torch" to which I replied, paraphrasing Mick Dundee, " That's not a bright torch, THIS is as bright torch…" and lit up the Skyray.

I had a similar situation when using my Eagletac D25LC2 XP-G2. The lady said that's a bright torch. I replied oh no that's not a torch, now that's a torch. I turned on the Thrunite TN31 and her jaw dropped.

I liked the fancy dress where she wore a dress that you might expect the regal house of vampires might wear.

Thank you everyone for an enjoyable Halloween and I look forward to the steering wheel light. Eat your heart out X18.

It all happened one Halloween night in darkest Surrey, where the owls hide their eyes and the babies are silent in fear of the denizens of the dark...........

8158225833_f8de1a1e0d_c.jpg

A time of spirits and imps. The Occult was heavy on the minds of those who attended........

8158253046_b884e747a5_c.jpg

All the hosts of evil and wrongdoings in the world had gathered to wreak pure evil on the innocent and pure, their influence was everywhere......

8158223975_ff616ef913_c.jpg

Followed by a really stodgy pudding!

What a really great night out with torches this turned out to be.

Brooklands is a lovely place, steeped in history and the volunteers very knowledgable and entertaining in their tales about the cars, planes and the ghosts! (No we didn't see any.)

It was very nice to meet up with Jay R, Blue Led, Tofty and Hemdale once again and very, very nice to meet Hemdale's other half Cecile for the first time. I hope she thinks kindly of us Luxheads and our obsessions.

There was a slightly smaller selection of lighting wonders on our table at the pre-walk dinner. A selection of EDC's and some new unique works from Mr Tofty.

A selection:

And as for the uniquely designed Tofty lights - try these:

And precious metals, too!

8158255076_c7a5e2f184_c.jpg

And then it was time for us to pack away our things and follow a man called Gerald (Ex-BBC to boot!) through the darkened paths and tracks of the Brooklands race circuit. Encountering steep climbs, high viewing bridges and sharply canted corners. Along with a brief trip into the tunnels under the track itself (where we heard the ghostly sound of an ancient race car passing overhead!!!).

Unfortunately all this was too dark for my phone cam to cope with, and besides I was too busy wanging around my DBS Night Master Aspheric and my Klarus XT20, whilst shielding my eyes from BlueLed's TN31 or Jay's Skyray!!!!

But here are a couple of shots of the biggest plane they built there:

Then into the hanger for some History:

This Lancaster Bomber spent much of the time since WWII underwater in Loch Ness where it was forced to ditch, until some monster hunters found it and it was salvaged in remarkable condition! Although it was missing two of its engines and it had shrunk in the wash a bit :grin2:

So a big thank you to BlueLed for organising this trip and we must scan the net for more torchlit visits over the coming months. I do encourage those of you in the area to visit this great museum, we only saw a small fraction of all that was there, and it deserves another visit soon.

Also thanks to Jay for giving us a lift back to the station after it was all over.

Ten Ton Tess. They had one of these 10 ton Grand Slam bombs as a gate guardian outside an RAF base in Lincoln for 15 years and when they went to move it, they discovered it was still full of high explosive !!!!

Bugger!

That serves me right for taking piccies and not listening to the talk!

I did think it a bit small compared to the ones in the Dam Busters.

You win the prize for WWII aviation expert of the thread!

I'll leave the mistakes in the post for posterity.

I blame the shock of coming across a cardboard standee of my Father!

Didn't Barnes Wallace invent the geodesic gnome?

Jay, thanks for posting that fantastic photo of 'Lee across the ages' :)

Lee that isn't a relation of yours is it?

I agree with Pete and was going to start new thread for the 'CPF-UK First Meet of 2013', but wanted this thread to naturally slow down before doing so. I'll give it another couple of weeks and start it up.

Sorry Lee, I love the Lancs, my Grandfather served in 617 squadron . I'll save the war stories until the next meeting.

Wow!!

A huge respect to him and his comrades.

Was he in on the Mohne, Sorpe and Eder raid? Or the Grand Slams?

As you say, we must hear the tails at the next meet.
