I have been lurking the forums for sometime got a fenix p2d/l1d and love it for sheer light output and i just got a surefire g2 and i am in love. I want to get a rechargable li-ion battery but i don't know what they all are. for example i see 18650 thrown around a lot and other five digit numbers but i don;t know what they all are and if they are 2xCR123 sized or AA sized. so any help would be great.

3.7 volt Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteries are named based on their size. An 18650 is 18mm in diameter and 65mm long. 3.7v Li-Ion 123s are normally just called rcr123s. There are a few ways to upgrade the G2 depending on your taste. I am not sure which rechargeable cells are appropriate for the Fenixes, but plenty of people here do.

Remember what voltage you'll wind up with if you're using rechargables. The P60 lamp will go :poof: if you run too much voltage through it. An LED drop in would definatley open up your options.

Though I have seen 3V rechargables (same voltage as primaries) around somewhere, though I don't know exactly how much voltage they peak at.

Hello Anon,

Welcome to CPF.

The main two things to consider are:

1. Will the cell I want to use fit in the flashlight I want to use it in?
2. Will the light I want to use a Li-Ion cell in handle the increased voltage of this chemistry?

Also, you must realize the dangers associated with using and charging Li-Ion cells.

The numbers refer to the nominal size of the battery. An 18650 cell is 18 mm in diameter, 65 mm long, and the 0 means that it is a round cylinder.

This thread is more appropriate in the batteries and electronics section of the forum, so I will move it there for further discussion.

The Fenix P2D do not like 3.6V li-ons. It will run on turbo but you lose low medium high strobe SOS until the battery voltage drops to an acceptable level. You also void your warranty as your batteries are above the 3.2V rating by Fenix.
Note the Tenergy LiFePO4 cells are rated at 550mA max, less than the P2D on turbo.
Your best bet is special 3.0V Li-ons (they need a special 3.0V charger).

Funny how nobody mentioned that 18650's will not fit in the G2 because they're too fat. 17670's will though. Also, since you're new to rechargeables, you should get protected cells.
