Cree to triple its capacity

Why do I get the feeling that when that plant in China gets up and running we'll not just be looking at bins we'll be looking at bins and where the LED came from.

Such as "Oh the G4 LED is the brightest one out but the US one has a lower vf."

I might just support Cree less now they have plans to move some production to china.

I don't think they had manufacturing outside of the US until they recently acquired that company in HK.

Even if they had manufacturing in Asia that's fine with me, it's China that bothers me.

Cree acquired Cotco in March, and Cree now indicated that their North Carolina and Huizhou, China facilities are where the bulk of their products are manufactured.

Cotco was manufacturing Cree-licensed and branded products as early as 2005, but I don't know which ones.

Edit, nevermind

Since Cree is making more LEDs, I'm hoping they will get to the general public sooner.

Gunner,
Evidently you've not heard the recent stories about the recall of 17 million+ toys made in China and shipped to the U.S. by a U.S. based but Chinese manufactured toy company (due to lead used in the pigments), or about all of the pets killed and permanently injured by pet food manufactured in China and sold by American companies under their labels. These things happen because China has almost ZERO government regulation on goods for export and in fact actively encourages their export sector to cut corners and keep prices as low as possible even at the expense of health/safety/quality. This is all not to mention that Chinese companies use what is basically slave and child labor in many manufacturing endeavors and is deserving of censure just for this fact. I'm not an American apologist or a Bushie, in fact I am a liberal Democrat, just pointing out why many people (myself included) distrust/dislike Chinese made products.

You know why I don't like chinese products? Every product I have that has Chinese and non-Chinese manufacturing shows that the non-chinese is better. One example is my Thinkpad, the older ones I've used were made in Japan and are way better than my T60p. Or Panaflo fans, the old Japan ones are still running while I've gotten some China ones that died of bearing failure.

There's also ethical and political reasons why I won't support China. Human rights is a big deal, the lack of morals and corruption in their officials. Look at the amount of plagiarism of products and the lack of care from the law about it. There's a car company in China that does nothing but copy designs from GM and Toyota. I've seen a crash test of an SUV by that company. The car looked exactly like a ford Explorer but the crash was terrible the dummies were crushed like pan cakes. Not to mention that for every job that pops up in China it's one less job in North America. I do make exceptions for companies there that innovate on their own such as Fenix or NMB. I vote with my wallet.

As long as Cree maintains it's QC, then I don't think there should be any problems with their LEDs.

I understand the problems with Chinese manufacturing(I have read the stories of poisonous/malfunctioning/or just down right shameful toys, pet food and other products), it's not that there is zero government regulation, it is the governors themselves and the businessmen are corrupt and desperately need to be replaced. Some people try to have some sort of regulation but it usually doesn't work. For example, if the head/president gives $1 million to improve the safety of products, the first government official to see that money will illegally take 10% of that money, then the next one will take a further 10% and so on(Numbers are random guesses and not to be taken as a fact, No one dares to stop these people, they are too powerful). The governors/businessmen then run off to another country when they have gathered enough money. The head/president wants to improve the quality of products but by the time the money reaches where it's needed, it would have already been too little to help. Money is still top priority there, it seems to be more important that the lives of others. Most of the businessmen there want to make the most money with no regards to safety of their workers or their products. Some bribe the government to not check their factories.

I also hate the way many Chinese businessman and governmental officials act. It will come back to haunt them. I just don't like people picking on just one country or judge all their products on just a few experiences.

I'm hoping the Chinese remove their corrupt governors and businessmen before it is too late.

I hope I have not created any bad feelings, sorry.
