What are the range of tints possible within the Cree WC bin? I've had 4 WC q5 pills from Dereelight and everyone of them have the same exact tint-a nice, slightly purplish white tint which I like. I'm asking because I've read other posts that say the WC bin appears slightly blue, and mine aren't, so I'm just curious. For those of you with WC Crees, what tint are you getting? Either i got very lucky in the Cree lottery, or Cree did a good job with sorting/binning.

..you just said that yours are "slightly purplish"?

As far as I'm concerned, that's not desirable compared to "blueish", so I'm confused. I'm sure this is just subjective based on how each of us perceive that particular wavelength.
For the record, all of my Q5/WC's are on the "cool" side of white, as per spec, but what I'm really diggin right now is the R2 in a WD tint, now that's a beauty! :naughty:

All my WC bin lights are very cool. So cool, in fact, that I'm in the process of switching them to Q3-5A tint Crees. While you loose a few lumens to the tint change, the quality of the lumens you get more than make up for the difference, IMHO. Most noticeable is when you are outdoors, where a WC bin tends to make things look washed out, the 5A bin allows you to see much more detail.

I got two WC pills from Dereelight. One looks very white to mee and is quite nice, while the other is a little purpelish. I did not like this last one. Now I am just using a Q2 A5 pill in my CL1H and a R2 WH pill in my DBS. I flike these tints better. The purpelish one, I have changed the led, but not quite sucessfully. I guess I forgot to bake the led before soldering.

Thanks for all the replies. Yeah, I've had a chance to try out a 5A Q3, and the first thing that struck me was that it has the exact same tint as the Polarion PH50 (~4300K), I'm eying that (the 5A, not the PH50 )as a future purchase :)
