Hi guys,

Quick intro, im from the Uk, own a company specialising in off-road vehicle modding, as such, i have a pretty decent machine shop, and without spending big bucks on a flash light i haven't found anything i particularly like, so im going to have a bash at making one, because i also like the challenge!

So, im looking for something bright with a decent battery life, obviously. So first off im looking at HID, as i know its massively bright, and not all that expensive for a 10w kit from ebay (About $100).

So, im going to machine a custom aluminium body, with 12 2850mAh batteries, giving me a total of 28500 mAh (or 28.5 Ah?) now, with a 10w lamp i estimate this will give me 24 hours of power, however i cant imagine that's right?

Ive gone for AA's as i can find them pretty much all over the world in case for some reason i cant recharge them. Im also going to make a drop in charger for it.

Im also going to build a little low battery warning circut into it and use a halo illuminated switch on the tail cap, so when the battery gets low, a red led halo will glow around the switch on the tail cap.

This is the switch im thinking of;

The only other thing that concerns me is the lamp.

This is it.

Its a fixed reflector 12 degree unit. Now, im not too fussed about focusing, but whats 12 degrees going to be like for general use? Its going to be used generally within a 5 meter distance of me, so not very long range.

Am i doing the right thing by going HID? It seams quite simple and pretty efficient, but you guys are the experts!

What would you change on my spec?

Thanks for the help!

Rich
