As a patrol officer, I have yet to come across a light that is as good for indoor use (clearing rooms, etc) as the Gladius with it's UI. Being able to go from momentary strobe to constant or momentary light with a twist of the fingers is much more practical than any other strobe function I've seen (i.e.tap rear button three times for strobe mode, etc.) However, the Gladius leaves something to be desired in terms of light output.

I didn't know what would be the best option to update the light. I know Strategos offers some upgrades, but they're pretty spendy considering I have the original Gladius, not the Maximus (I'd have to pay about $70-$80 for the updated LED and the same for the updated optic if I'm understanding things). I've also seen the Elzetta which looks like it might work in a similar fashion. Is there anyone out there on the forum or a reputable vendor (such as Malkoff) that is offering an upgrade for the Gladius? Reliability is the most important consideration considering what I'd be using it for.

Thanks for any input!

I also have the original Gladius... and I agree with you completely! I was not aware that at this late a date my Gladius could still be upgraded. I will be interested to hear what the folks have to say.

Might want to research the upgrade a bit, some unhappy customers in the past, dunno if it was ever fully resolved. You can message Vinh on the custom section, he may or may not be able to upgrade it for you.

Look into this as it's a copy of the Gladius: Dead link removed

This would be the same with a bigger head but with the latest and brightest led:
Supbeam tactical flashlight CREE XM-L2 LED 945 lumens -T10(XM-L2 Version)

Don"t know if your tailcap would fit on the body in case one should fail.

Do a CPF search here and you will find a great review on the Thrunite Scorpion by "selfbuilt"

Search another popular LEO light here is the Klarus XT-11. Simple tail switch interface with only 2 buttons on the tail cap for one handed operation. Always turns on to max brightness on one button and instant strobe on another.

Link removed as per the banner at the top of the page

Thanks for the input.

I had looked at the Thrunite Scorpion. My only concerns about it were (1) whether or not it'd hold up/be bulletproof reliable as it doesn't seem to have the LEO following and (2) whether the light output would be too bright for its intended use (primarily inside, I have a Streamlight SL20L for my outdoor work, which I LOVE but doesn't seem to get much attention here). Anyone have any experience using the Scorpion in this fashion. I'd never heard of the "supbeam," it looks like a Gladius/Scorpion clone.

There are some posts by LEO's here that state they use the Scorpion in their daily duties. Using the infinite adjustment, the light could be dialed down to your desired level but you will always have max output on the momentary and strobe setting. Or stick by your original plan and find someone to upgrade your light.

Figure the cost of one of these lights would probably equal the cost of upgrading your light.

There are some questions about whether "Supbeam" is the OEM of Thrunite's products and perhaps Supbeam decided to become a retailer of their own brand.
