when my back up arrived my "free' lithium cells were taped together. Every time i go to get another cell, i have to rub or clean the glue off the battery, why the heck do they do that....Whats the best safe way to get the glue off the cells?

I use Goo Gone, a mild citrus oil adhesive remover to remove tape goo, on a cotton rag. A little glass cleaner or alcohol on a rag afterwards takes the lemon smell away.

They are probably taped together to prevent them from accidentally arranging themselves in such a manner that creates an electrical circuit. If the package gets jiggled just right and 5 or 6 of them just happen to connect in series + to -, that would cause a fire or explosion. Imagine the damage that could cause in the mail or to people handling the package at the time that happens. Better to have to clean up a little glue than the possible alternative.

I haven't used Goo Gone on batteries, but it does the trick on everything else I've had to remove glue or tape residue. I would try that.

RRE: Goo Gone is PRETTY HARSH STUFF!!!

Goo gone is pretty harsh stuff, use WD40.
I had a several year old 8oz bottle of Goo Gone start leaking out of it's own bottle (on our plastic 5-shelf Laundry Room Organizer). No damage, just inconvenience.I turned it upside down.

I found a 32oz bottle "On Sale" at the local Appliance Repair Parts Shop and within a couple of years it too leaked out of the bottom. This time it was in a old Rubbermaid Dish Pan (guessing at the name - 14"x12"x5" - flexible) I was using for storage and caused an 8" buckled split in the bottom!

Yes, it cleans of gummy residue really well. But, it needs to be kept in GLASS containers!

well some of the labels and tapes are Alcohol diluted.

rest are spirit (enamel paint thinner) Diluted ....

tip: in case you have a paper label, just apply some with a cloth or soft paper and let it rest for a while. the thinner will work down to the glue and cut it. The the label will peel off.

This method works particularly well for Cd cases cos the paint thinner will harm the clear plastic case...just be gentle
