just a quick question.... I have two identical laptop wall power packs spec'd at 15V DC, 4.5A. I can wire their outputs in parallel and essentially have an equivalent ~15V 9A supply right?

Are they regulated supplies? If so, put a diode in series with each so the regulators don't go nuts. Schottkey diodes are recommended due to lower voltage drop.

Plain, unregulated wall warts, go for it.

All the electronic equipment have tolerance. For example,a power pack output 15V,It maybe output 14.5~15.5V(you can read the spec,or measure it by multimeter). Suppose that power pack A output 14.5V,and power pack B output 15.5V,And if wire their's outputs in parallel......The output port of power pack A is input 15.5V,So It will be endure reverse voltage.
Maybe you can try to in series a high-power resistance or a 4.5A diode in each power pack. The value and power of resistence must be calculated by the tolerance of power pack.
