Decision about taking the clear wrap off a 30Q

I have a SF C2 bored for 18650 but my 30Q is just a little too tight. It gets a little stuck in there without enough free movement for reliable operation. Trying to use it with a Sportac triple. Could'a sworn I had a bored 6P to try, but can't find it. May have even sold it and don't remember.

The 30Q has a clear wrap over what is I assume to be the original light raspberry sherbert colored wrap. The clear also looks to be holding a white plastic ring around the button top to minimize risk of anything shorting. Question is... does anyone recommend against taking off the clear wrap? It may give just enough clearance to freely move back and forth, but wondering what the experience out there might say. Safe enough?... lol.

Don't everybody answer all at once. 😜

I've decided against taking the wrap off. It'll see use as a backup to the other 30Q in a Viking Pro, or in some other way. It's a nice cell, so I'm not gonna' risk messing it up. I'll eventually find a way to use the triple.

OK... I did it. Took the clear wrap off one of my only two 30Qs. Short version is it's working very well.

It's been bothering me to have a triple Osram P60 that I can't use. Finally found my bored 6P body (SF LED Defender), tried the cell, and it was even tighter than the C2 mentioned above. That was the last straw. I carefully took off the clear wrap, was very happy to see the plastic disc surrounding the button top stayed firmly attached (must be some adhesive layer there), and even happier to find the cell now moved slicker than breakfast after laxatives.

This setup will now be tested against the Viking Pro (also using a 30Q) for king of the night time dog poop hunting, my favorite flashlight pastime these years. Will report if any issues with the unwrapped cell, though I don't anticipate any.

A photo of what wrap you were talking about may have been easier to answer. The risk of course of removing any battery shrinkwrapping is the risk of shorting against inside wall. Looks like the pink wrap is giving protection, so not sure why yours has an additional clear wrap?

I think there must be different types as my version is a protected button top with both clear and pink shrink wrap.

Hi, Lux. Yeah, I'm not sure why either. Extra protection perhaps? Or possibly for less rattle in lights designed to fit all 18650s? The pink wrap is definitely providing protection though, and seems sturdy as any other wrap I've felt.
