Re: ROP Mod vs 5761 6D Mag Will it Flash?

You'll need more resistance or a soft-start. See the 5761 data here. I can't tell you what voltage your bulb will see with that set-up, but I (and my former supply of 5761's) know 6x 4000mAh 1/2 D's are too much.

5761 + 6x big, fresh NiMH cells + stock Mag resistance = :poof:

Re: ROP Mod vs 5761 6D Mag Will it Flash?

Could I just add a simple (?)ohm resistor to the tail cap? However, I would really like to know what the bulb actually sees before I start trying to drop a half a volt. lovecpf

Thanks

You're heading down the right path, you need a NTC in the tailcap would be your best bet since you are not wanting to use a soft start switch, these are fairly simple to build, they can be made with common items in your garage, the thing you will need is a Ametherm resistor which is all a part of the NTC. The NTC works by lowering the initial start up voltage when u click the switch on, then as it heats up it raises the voltage back up to the level it needs to be. Do some research on it, there are tons of threads regarding the NTC. Good luck

Re: ROP Mod vs 5761 6D Mag Will it Flash?

You can check voltage with your DMM when your running your m@g by using DMM to complete the circuit.
*I suggest you first check current. 6s D is a lot of potential power. Ensure this won't fry your DMM first.
Set the m@g on something, you'll need both hands for this:
-Take the tailcap off
-click switch to 'on'
-using dmm leads, place one on -'ve of last cell and apply pressure, place other lead on bottom of m@g battery tube (should be shiny where tailcap usually connects and no anodizing is)
-your probes complete the circuit and the light comes on. You'll notice the volts drop quickly.

Problem with this is, that is draw under the specific bulb you're using - the cells may perform differently with another bulb.
Another problem - tailcap + spring is a source of resistance, your DMM set-up will over-state the performance of your light.

I do not know the specs of your equipment. I'm telling you it is possible, you have to evaluate if it is safe.

Re: ROP Mod vs 5761 6D Mag Will it Flash?

Update, just killed the ROP. Nothing new, same batteries as the day before, turned it on, fine. On for 2 minutes, off. Bulb filament melted at the end. :( Anyone want to buy a UCL 52.1mm lol. Hopefully mag and batteries can go back to amazon. Off to buy a surefire. :) Maybe modding isn't for me, as I screwed up the easiest one.

Dont give up now, it'll take some time to sort everything out but youll get the hang of it.
