Dented Eneloop

Dropped my Fenix L2D the other day, wasn't the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last time.... Well, this afternoon I was taking the Eneloops from this light out of my charger and saw that the negative end on one of the batteries is a bit caved in. Not enough that it wont make contact or not work normally but still pretty dished.

The battery works fine, charged with no problems (maha c9000) and I'm was using it today......

My question is....am I asking for trouble? will this battery self destruct? Should I be worried about it or should I just toss it and move on???

I'll add that the light was dropped from waist height, on concrete, right smack square on the business end while being on. The flashlight works fine with a few more beauty marks.

Thanks for your replies, Corbin

Hello Corbin,

Welcome to CPF.

I would keep an eye on it, but just keep using it. If it decides to act up on you, then you can recycle it.

Have the same thing happen to my Duraloops twice! But I have no idea exactly which one of my lights is caused it. I have four Duraloops and each pair I have used in a TK20, L2DCE and possibly on a P10A2/King power K2. I first noticed the dented on my L2DCE so I checked my other lights and found the other on a TK20. To try and eliminate the problem I started using a new set of batteries Duracell 2650s (sorry dont have another set of Duraloops) and so far I have not seen/noticed any problem with them. I checked my other batteries as well, Royovac Hybrids and Eneloops and none of them have a dent.

(edit) I recall having the P10A2 falling from my bed and the K2 rolling over. I still use the dented duraloops but only in my single AA lights no issue so far.

I have dented one also by dropping it accidentally (the eneloop). Seems fine. Still using it.

I did the same in my L2D with Eneloops and thought i killed them.

I charged them and then left them for 7 months while keeping an eye on the voltages which were totally normal for the whole 7 months. I did a discharge on them and both cells were still balanced very closely. The cells still had about 1600mah with my very crude discharge test.

A dent in the negative end does not seem to affect the Eneloop cells.

what are duraloops?

what are duraloops?

One of the two known versions of the Duracell Pre-charged AA and AAA cells; generally believed to be re-badged Eneloops.

They are specifically labelled as made in Japan and most readily identifiable by the white filler surrounding the positive post.

Because of Duracell's more extensive market penetration, they are often available in retail outlets that don't carry the Eneloop.

Incidentally, the Sony Cycle Energy Blue 'Ready to Use' AA cell and one of the three known versions of the Uniross Hybrio 'Ready to Use' AA cell are also generally believed to be re-badged Eneloops.
