By the way, Home Depot has 2C mags for $14.99. So I got one last night and dropped the KPR112 in. Rolled up some paper and made a quick and dirty spacer for the 3x123. SWEET /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/santa.gif Much more handy and lighter than the 2D with the 3toD batteries. Now I have to stock up on 123's.

Cool. I've used rolled up paper towels in a pinch. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You better stock up more on the KPR112s than 123s. I blow the bulb way before the batteries die. And I don't even keep it on for long periods of time.

I love the light though and luckily the KPR112's are cheap. I heard if you buy at least ten or something you get a little discount too. But I don't know how many you have to buy let alone if it's true for sure. I read it somewhere here.

Hey, guys, I have two questions...

- 1 What is the bulb life? [hours?]
and
- 2 If the bulb lasts longer than 1 set of batteries, what is the runtime? I've been curious about this mod.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Danno

The bulb box says it has about a 15 hour life, IIRC. But that's if your driving it at specs. I've only just done this and it was last night, so I don't know from experience. I wish I could find some 7v Xenon bulbs. When I put the 6v Xenon bulb in, it flashed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif $4 down the drain. Even the Halogen bulbs are better than the Krypton.

I dropped in a 5 cell Magnum Star bulb and I flashed it. $3 bulb down the drain.

I then put in a 6 cell Magnum Star bulb and I am currently running it at spec, so it should last me a while.

I basically have a 6C/D cell light in a 2C package with less weight (due to lithiums being lighter than alkalines.)

I just saw an ad for them. They are now reduced to $9.99
I am going to get one since my other 2C broke.

Jason: Not to mention the absence of 24" of aluminum.

Wow, for $10, I may get a couple and make up some Christmas presents for a few friends.

When I put a 6v Xenon in my 2D with 6AA's, it ran fine. I guess the resistance in the 3toD adapters was limiting what the bulb got.

I've blown through four of the KPR112. Have not lost a KPR118, which is rated at 5.23 MSCP vs. the 112's 5.46

I've read that the KPR112 driven this way lasts about 30 minutes. There's also lots of variance in that number... some flash almost immediately, while others seem to run for a couple hours or more. I blew one in about 30-60 minutes, and I'm currently running another.

Fresh bulb and batteries I get around 15 minutes plus on the bulb before it flashes the second bulb will last most of the time till I change batteries and put in a new bulb because fresh batteries will blow a used bulb almost instantly.

The 6.5V HPR51 will run on 3x123. The HP50 (aka HPR50) you linked to would certainly flash on 3x123 as the overdrive percentage is insane. I know, I tried it.

I use two bulbs in a 3x123 setup. The HPR51 and the CL1057.

Ginseng, thanks for the response. where can I get the bulbs that yu mention? They aren't Rat shacks are they?

thanks

Steve

Any of the good bulb houses will sell the HPR51. The CL1057 is the brightest for a 3x123 and is from Carley.

Great price! Just went to their site and there's no 2C. Did you go to a store? Unfortunately none near me.

I got a 2C Mag from Home Depot also. They had a bunch of black, and a bright purple /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I stuck with basic black. Goes with anything...
Is there still a minimum buy from Carley?
I bought bulbs for 5 and 6 cell lights, and use the 5 cell, but am going by a Radio Shack later, and figured to drop in and grab some KPR112s. I know the 5 cell "White Star" bulbs can take it, because the light accidentally switched on in my bag, and drained 3 brand new 123s down to nothing.
How much difference between bulbs like the HPR51 and CL1057 and what I'm using?
Even with the 5 cell bulb, this thing throws like my UltraStringer, just puts out less light.

I did the 2C mod awhile ago and am very happy with it. I just ordered a 2C to 3x123 sleeve from Wayne to replace my cheesy, but functional, foam sleeve.

Just checked my local HD. No C-cell Mags at all. But they did have Mini-mags in Silver, Black, Blue, Purple, & Red for $5.97 including batteries, holster, & anti-roll rubber bezel cap.
