difference beetween scorpion and tl-2

well, the obvious: rubber coated grip versus machine cut aluminum body. TL also has a pocket clip...

That's about it. The TL series has a glass lens.

They both use the same bulb. I prefer the NF-2 with the grip ring removed. Currently, I have a Pila cell and a Strion bulb in it. Makes for a good combo.

Scorpion has clickie tailswitch to my understanding, the TL-2 has a momentary button with twistie tailswitch.

In my outdoor tests the TL-2 consistantly out-threw the Scorpion, and since Dano pointed out in a previous thread that the two lights share the same reflector shape the throw difference must be due to the different "faceting" of the two reflectors. The Scorpion's reflector has a satiny sheen that produces a more diffused beam than the TL-2's brightly reflective one. The PILA lamps with their "satiny" reflectors produce even wider beams; my PILA G2's beam is the closest approximation to the L4's that I've seen in an incandescent light.

Although the present PILA lamps are superb it would be nice to have the option of a more highly focused beam for longer throw.

I'm glad that I have, both, the Scorpion and TL-3. The size of the Scorp and its clickie make it pocketable and convenient to use. The TL-3 goes the distance when you need more throw.

I used to have a Scorpion and really loved the clicky switch and rubber grip. The downside to that was that you had to remove the head to change out the batteries. Either way, get a TL-3 with it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dano, how does the strion bulb fit the tl2 running pila? Is it better than the stock bulb using 2x123?

Stock bulb using 2 fresh 123 is a bit brighter but Strion bulb using Pila will hold it's brightness for longer time.
Using Strion flashlight will be better choice. It has higher capacity battery and convenience of recharging.

I have the tl2 and tl3 and am taking evening walks with it. I get the tl3 with 2x17500 and my son who is 7 takes the tl2. It gets expensive to run the tl2. I also have the Wolfeye 168 cell light with 3.7 LA but my son prefers the tl2. He knows a quality light!!!

Purchased the stinger bulb but its very yellow and out of focus and not very bright.

The TL-2 will only accept the PILA 1168S which is thinner and less powerful than the 168A and even less of a match for the 2000MaH Strion battery.

It makes a good beam (the TL-2 w/Pila cell), but output isn't as intense as a Strion. It's close, though.
