I was thinking it would be handy to add a dim, red, LED to my kit. I was thinking the perfect solution would be a dim red Arc AAA. I wonder if there are others out there looking for this?

John N,

You are correct, the ARC AAA is the "perfect" red LED IMHO. I have one and I liked it so much that I bought another ARC AAA red plus 2 red Infinitys, 2 red X5Ts, 2 red Photon IIs and a red KL1. The red KL1 is way bright /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

The one I use the most out of all these is the ARC AAA red. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Hi John...

The original Arc AAA that was made several years ago has the dimmest red beam, and when you shine it on the wall its LED artifacts makes its beam look like a "starburst" pattern.

The next generation...more recent...red Arc AAA`s have a brighter and more "ruby" red beam.

If you`re interested in one or both, please send a PM to me, and we can probably work something out. I have both NIB.

Take care.

If it's just for occasional use, get a red Countycomm light, or a white one and swap a 2032 cell and red LED into it. (Swapping LED's in those things is simple).

I just got a couple of old style red Infinitys from BatteryStation. They have just the right brightness for close night work (map reading, etc). Not the quality of an ARC AAA by any means, but totally serviceable and you can buy 3 of them for the cost of one AAA.

I assume the red Arc AAA was a limited run? I don't see it listed on their web site.

Arc used to make the AAA in a full range of colors. They discontinued that a year or two ago and only made white and turquoise. Now they've dropped turquoise so you'll only see white in new lights. I think colors are still available for bulk orders (250 or more) so occasionally you'll see a dealer with some (I think one of the CPF sponsor dealers gets turquoise in sometimes) but generally you'll only find color AAA units second-hand or modified from a white model.
