Dive light with 6000 lumen

Hi there.

I want to make my own divelight, not because i think it will cost less this way but because its mor fun this way.



Here is what i have in mind.



1 csm-360-w65s led from luminus.



1 50mm reflector with about 8 degree spread.



2 5A 18,5V lipo batery



1 custommade driver with 50% and 100% mode.

50% mode = 3,2A 12,8V

100% mode = 6,3A 13,6V



A custommade cnc mashined housing.



I have troble to find a suitable reflector for this led, any one who can point me to the right direction?



Any ideas for the driver?

The emitter size is 36mm^2.

You're battery on 50% won't even run the light for an hour.

Why did you choose that LED?
I cant see you finding a reflector to use with it that will give you 8 degree spread.

6000 lumen is heaps of light. IMHO way too much.

With that build you are going to run into a lot of issues.
1. Finding compatible reflector/ optics
2. finding/ building a driver
3. Heat
4. blinding fish/divers and contributing to global warming.
5. Short run time


My advice think a little smaller.

My hobby is wreckdiving in sweden
The visibility here is sometimes = 0
so i thought it would be nice to have a divelight that you can see when it is onn

You need to focus on get a tight spot more than bruteforcing the Lumens.
In low vis your likely to blind yourself with the backscatter... light brights on the car in the fog.

Yeah , all you are going to achieve is illumination of all the silt in the water. You will not see past it.
The only use for that LED in a dive light would be for a camera lighting system.

What do you think about 3*ostar with fraen reflector instead.
Any ideas about 2 mode driver.

Not to mention the fact that a video light is next to useless in low viz conditions for reasons stated above.

You will learn more building your first light then anyone can explain. Make the first light cheap. After you complete it and are using the first light, you will understand how you should have made it. Then you can make your 2nd light better.

Only problem is once you make your second then you find out about a new LED and want to make your 4th, 5th and 6th. Then you get obsessed!

Because that is where the money is and where things are dumped when they don't want it to be found. Recovery teams are always in bad conditions. Anybody can learn to dive and work when you can see. Doing it blind or where others are afraid to go is how you increase your demand and profit.

I agree with Packhorse, I'm a diver, and do UW photo and video and my first certification was made in zero visibility.

The suspension in the water that lower the vis will reflect the light so more light less vis.

The less clear the water the weaker the light should be, if you have a vis of 30mt 6000 lumen will be fine.

Just an update on Salvo, two of the ex Salvo employees in the US have set up there own business under the name Light Monkey.

You will notice that their design is virtually identical to the Salvo lights, Light Monkey do make a video light that is a dual HID setup 6000 lumens

My point was , the light is still available.... And Ive gone diving with this light , in bad vis, filming video.. So im talking from experience

I dont recall the OP saying anything about video but perhaps I missed it.

Pack I think you have missed the point H20 was trying to make, there is references to a using a large die led (CSM-360-W65) producing a flood beam and not a tight beam.
What sort of beam does a video light produce? Flood. So to save yourself the bother of making a light with 6000 lumens at the cost of a floody beam, Just go and buy the Salvo/Light Monkey dual 35w hid video light.
But it will still be useless in the conditions Vasilios dives in..
