Probably just limited experience, but I find that multi-mode flashlights all seem to be missing what I think of as the most useful mode - something that puts out a bright flash every so often, but with a sufficiently long pause between flashes that the duty cycle is low and the runtime is high, ie multiple nights. The obvious use case is "I am lost outdoors and would like to make it easy for someone to find me".
I don't really see the value of SOS mode since in most lights it consumes about the same power as "high", which means it's not likely to last even a single night. Besides, how many people even know Morse code these days ?
I imagine a random mix of 1 flash and 2 flashes would be ideal, but key thing is to get the duty cycle sufficiently low to significantly extend battery life.
