Do you think I damaged anything?

I was trying to be slick by putting shrink tubing on my Infinity Ultra. I figured that it would be easiest to use a pot holder and gradually rotate it over my electric range-top.

Both the body and head seemed to look pretty good, so I set it down to cool for a few minutes, knowing it would be fairly warm. About 3-4 minutes later, the body felt around 130-140 F to the touch. I panicked. I didn't think it would still be that hot after cooling and wondered how hot it had actually been.

Now, it seems to run fine and I can't seem to find any visible damage, but I'm wondering if I just did something bad. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif

Please let me know if this would have a negative impact on the circuits or LED itself.

Thanks,
-Jason

*comparing it now against another, it seems just as bright and the pattern seems okay...

It doesn't sound like you damaged it any. You can't hurt the casing at that temperature, so that should be OK. The electronics shouldn't be hurt by it either, but you could melt the solder thats holding them together if it got hot enough in there. But if you did that you would see a change in performance, or perhaps No performance /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The only other thing I would worry about would be discoloration or melting of the LED epoxy, But if you dont' see that then I wouldn't worry about that either.

As long as the aluminum didn't expand and sieze the threads and the O-Ring is still OK, then you're fine, stop worrying about it!

Don't sweat it Jason... I build a fair number of mods and typically use my toaster oven to cure thermal or electrically conductive epoxies. I "cook" at ~150 degrees all the time without any problems.

I did once accidentally let a couple of red/orange luxeons go to 335 degrees. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif They still worked, but positive power had to routed through the die slug.

It's probably damaged beyond repair. I think you should definately send that "damaged" infinity ultra to me and get a new one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

(just kidding - if it works it's probably fine)

Thanks guys, I feel better knowing that I didn't fry all the circuits and that it won't fail me late at night when I need it most.
