Looking for a 55W HID Slim ballast, there are many on ebay but after reading the specs (Some has the I in printed on ballast), they are ALL 3.2Amp, which is

same as the 35W HID Ballast.

I have only seen three type of Amps for HID ballasts (For the 12V system)

(Ignore the claimed Watts, One must read specs to get through Marketing Hypes)

1. V in norm 13.2V, I in norm 3.2A. =42/43Watt input Power.

at 80% efficiency, output =34W.

This is the spec for typical 35W HID Ballasts. 35W rating based on output power.

2. V in norm 13.2V, I in Norm 4.3A = 57W input power

at 80% efficiency, output =45W.

This is the spec for typical 50W/55W HID Ballasts. 55W rating based on input Power

However, many 50/55W ballast on ebay has I in =3.2A,

i.e actually 35W ballasts. On must read spec, only few 50/55W ballasts

actually has I in = 4.3A.

3. V in norm 13.2V, I in norm 5.5A = 73W input power

at 80% efficiency, output =58W.

This is the spec for typical 75W HID Ballasts. 75W rating based on input power

This is not new news, in terms that Higher watt ballasts started cheating using input powers

rather than out put powers like it was in 35W level.

However, the new news to me is when I tried to find a 55W Slim ballast

There are many 50/55w slim ballast, from those I could read the label/spec printed on the ballast,

they are All with I in norm 3.2A.

Basically, more cheating going on there is not one Slim ballast I could find

that has I in Norm of 4.3A.
the 50/55W Slim ballasts are not even 50/55w by input power.

Basically, if anyone upgraded from 35W into a 55W slim ballast,

chances are there's no gain what's so ever,
excepts gain some modding experience learn a lesson .

If anyone know a place selling 55W Slim ballast with I in norm of 4.3A,

please let me know, I am still looking..
