Maybe its just me, but with the emergents of new Surefire lights recently as well as updates on old formats, there doesnt seem to be any cool new names being developed. I understand the reasoning behind giving lights numbered names E2DL etc, but theres got to be something said for writing the word 'Devastator' in bold letters on the side of your light.

I know surefire doesnt want to be percieved as gimmicky, and i think its great they tell the function of a light on the side 'defender model' etc... i just really like the named lights, and i think they have the reputation where nobody would think it as gimmicky.

As an added note, i realize nearly every surefire has a name attached to it 'centurion, outdoorsman, aviator' etc, maybe i was wrong in thinking they should attach combative names to anything other than a combatlight.

Interesting topic. What I have seen in the last 8 years is that most people refer to our lights by the part number and not the name. There are a few exceptions like the Aviator. But typically it is the part number.

In all fairness, its HellFighter. And the Invictus, Saint and Vampire havent started shipping yet, not to rub salt, so there isnt a history.

Not to change topic, but you said Aviator! I cant wait for the new full led version!! Thank god for Gene Malkoff keeping me occupied! :poke:

This full LED version of the Aviator really makes no sense to me. I just don't get it.

Didn't they already make the Kroma and that looked better and had more features and didn't go over so well.

Oh, come on! That's what we're talking about here; "Kroma" is not a cool name, but "Aviator" is.

Actually, it was HellFire for a while - which IMHO is the cooler of two names. :D

The full LED aviator is apparently the size of an E2E, which is honestly very noticeably smaller and easier to carry, whereas the Kroma is big. Nobody wants to carry it unless they know they need the color flood LEDs.

Yes, I was here before the Hellfire or HellFighter, I know. Just making the point that it isnt and hasnt been referred to as Hellfire for 3 or 4 years.

I am very happy to see someone on this board from SureFire. Stuart, I hope you will stick around for a long time. You are very helpful. Don't let any stupid comments get you down. Thanks!

I agree with this...but also whenever I set my Guardian down I set the light so I can see the name "Guardian"
I am a big fan of the cool names...hope they continue in the future...in case your wondering...I'm a big fan...

What about that titanium Paul Kim E-series tool handle with the two or three different knife blades? Seems like a good candidate for the "Eviscerator"

(Cue the criticisms of warped humor in three... two... one...)

Me neither...the fundamental specialty of the A2 is the regulated incan mode. Heck, if you really look at the C2D/M2Ds from earlier catalogs...the A2 is the only factory production of a light that uses the LVR driver:D

I wonder what PK would sayif we created a raster list of good names and threw his on it for good measure;)

According to the catalog, the new Aviator LED is gonna have 120 lumans. Much more then the Kroma.
