Does the LED in the AAA chip?

Or scratch?
I think mine has a little bit of the LED chipped off, almost like a scratch one finds on a watch crystal. Maybe that's why the beam has a lot of rings.

it can.
but the way it is recessed it is unlikely.
a few scratches or dings wont hurt the beam.
the rings and other artifacts are normal and vary from one led to the next.mine has been on a heavily loaded keyring for a long while and it has taken many trips to the pavement without serious damage.
