Does the 'wait' make you buy more lights?

I thought it was bad with production lights, but now that I'm into custom builds, the 'wait' is often unbearable. What I'm trying to say is that while I'm awaiting the delivery of a custom modification, I feel the unquenchable desire to get my 'fix' in the meantime, and what that usually means is the purchase of even more lights to 'hold me over'. Can anyone else relate to what I'm saying? In the short term, my bank account gets dangerously low and sadly I sell off lights to fund the new lights that are just holding me over till the custom light arrives. :hairpull: I seriously think I may need therapy :grouphug:....seriously. I can't stop buying lights!!! No laughing matter, it's all I do. Here's my daily routine:

-Get up and check CPF
-Shower, drive to work, then re-check CPF
-Check CPF throughout workday when I can
-Re-check CPF one more time so I hopefully don't miss anything during the drive home
-Immediately check CPF once I'm home
-Check throughout evening
-Re-check one last time before bed
-Repeat as necessary

It's getting ridiculous, while I'm waiting for a Milky creation, I've since bought 7 new lights that are all in transit, along with 5 accessories. I'm not sure I can keep this up. And I'm not even trying to be funny, I think I'm seriously addicted.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, so can anyone else relate?

Um...yeah, we can all relate...unfortunately. I guess every person needs a hobby, or two

thats why there is marketplace. Most of the lights i impulse bought in similar situations i have sold.

My friend, you have the disease. Badly. :candle:

Step 1, it would seem, would be thus:

Change your UserName to something like

KindaBrightIsGoodEnough

Step 2, you may want to shred yer' Credit Cards.

:D

Regardless, good luck to you in your quest for the Perfect Flashlight.

Hey Brighter,

I think the help you are looking for is in you sigline. Just because flashaholism doesn't cause you to wreck cars, get DWIs or go to jail doesn't mean itsn't real. I'm not going to get preachy on you, but he that asks recieves. God knows if you are sincere, He will hear your prayer, and if you truly want to be free of the obsession He will remove it.

(btw if this answer is too serieous than sorrry and good luck :D)

Brighterisbetter,

Although I'm new here and this is my first post on CPF I can relate to what your saying, sounds alot like my daily routine lol. I spend way too much time searching the marketplace for good deals and I'm a student working a low paying job (poor). In the meantime I just got my first Surefiire, a C2 and now I want an E2DL and another Surefire host and am trying to get parts for a Mag85 build along with plans to get an Eagletac soon. I feel it is not healthy to spend so much time thinking bout lights and how to fund them.

My friends and family think I've gone crazy. CPF is both a blessing and a curse since I spend so much $, having said this I think this forum is an amazing community and great resource and marketplace is great to.
+1 post above me

My credit card expired at the end of August. I shredded it. I have not renewed it/told the credit card company to send me the new one explicitly to avoid purchasing lights I cannot afford. *sigh*

Well, I guess I'm at the other end of the spectrum compared to a lot of guys on here. I never shop online. Use my credit cards as little as possible. Pay cash 99 44/100% of the time. And yet I have so many flashlights, lanterns, dot-it/hocky puck types, electronic flares, and 120VAC LED light bulbs that I have no idea how many I have all together. I have never spent over $40 for the original flashlight + drop in mods + accessories + batteries for any of them. Do have a handful of duds/cheap lights, but most do what I need them for. It all started with Flashlight-Reviews, then The LED Museum, then CPF. I guess visiting these websites helped me make some good choices on what I bought. Have about 4 lights in mind that I wouldn't mind getting, but only bought 1 of them and it was a good choice. I guess I either have good self control or that I haven't really been bitten by the bug yet. I'm seeing a psychologist for thereapy (for other reasons) and found out he's a flashaholic too. Have already sold him 1 light. Was joking with him, that I think that I will start paying him with flashlights.

I guess I have pretty good self control. Plus the fact I don't have that kind of expendable income. I just purchased a D10 to replace my NDI (my EDC for a year) because of the easy one handed brightness adjustment of the D10. I also added a couple of Photon Freedoms, one for EDC and the other as a spare for around the house. I may replace my other EDC (Peak Matterhorn 3 LED on my keychain) which I've carried for around 3 years, but maybe not.

All I can say is that it's like any other addiction and you've taken the first step by recognizing it.
