Would it be safe to run a RCR123A @ ~3.7V in an unmodified dorcy?
here is a link to the one I have, but I have no idea if it has voltage regulation or not.

Already have the light and a bunch of the RCR123a's just dont want to blow it out ;-)

Thanks for the help,
Aaron

It is fully boost regulated and very impressively so. Of course above 3.7v it's direct drive.

Have never used anything but RCR123 in mine, but then the stock Lux I star was out 5 minutes after opening the package, replaced with a Seoul star. Seems like the circuit is pretty tough but the emitter is the weak point, and since current draw is so low a 3.0v RCR123 should work just fine.

With Seoul and 3.7v RCR123 it's a whole different light.

The star is NOT heatsinked very much in this light; so, a RCR123 boosts the output and the heat of the LED. It would probably be okay for short bursts, but I would not recommend using the light for extended periods.
