I got hold of a Pr base led that I was told came out of a Dorcy Cool Blue. Can I use this bulb in other lights? And how many cells will it have to be to get optimum illumination?

I've used the bulb from my Cool Blue in a number of other lights. If you use it in anything less than 4 cells, your output will be noticeably diminished. The only light I've tried it in that it just won't seem to work in is a Docter Aspherilux 125. Right now it's found a home in my Energizer Arc White...coupled with the Arc White's CCFT, it makes for a very nice, long burning emergency light. There are brighter Pr based LED's out there, but the one from the Cool Blue serves it's purpose.

It should fit any PR-base flashlight that uses 4x 1.5V cells and has a (+) bulb nipple polarity.
If the bulb shell is (+) and the nipple on the end is (-) then it won't work. That's probably why it doesn't work in a Docter Aspherilux 125, but I don't know where mine is so I can't check that.

The LED dome is ground down so it will work with the flashlight's reflector. The deeper the reflector, the more LED light becomes incorporated into the beam.

Craig...I tried reversing the polarity in my Docter Aspherilux 125, and the Cool Blue bulb STILL wouldn't work in it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif...Oh well, there's other options that I'm gonna try in it. I like the DA125, but I'll like it even better when i get it converted to LED!

Well, that's #(^*ed up... one would think the Cool Blue blub would work in it one way or other... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

I still don't know where my Docter Aspherilux 125 is (and I looked for it, really, I did!) so I can't try it myself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

I tried the bulb in an Everyready 4AA light I have. It puts out a pretty small spot. But the reflector is not the greatest.
I have a 5 cell with a better reflector, would it be safe to try?

If you replaced one of those 5 cells with a shorting "dummy" cell, and the bulb nipple is (+) positive, you ought to be able to use it in that flashlight.

Took another route. Made a simple mod out of a Tap light, it runs on 4 AA's. Now I have a nice nightlight that will last a heckuva lot longer than the incan bulb that originally came with it.
I just have other lights that performed better than what I saw with the bulb so I saw no need to use it.
At least this way I am getting some use out of it.

***EDIT ADDED***
Man is this mod BRIGHT!! I leave it on at night so we can see the baby's crib [mainly to placate my wife] and I am having trouble getting to sleep because of the light it puts out. I don't ever want to hear her complain about my PalLights again!
