I am building a dorcy metal gear flashlight laser with a xbox 360 hd-dvd player blue ray diode. I have all the parts I need, but I got this flashlight because I heard you can put a cap onto the board and extend the life of the diode. I have a 1uf cap, but can someone tell me where to put it onto the board? I have soldering experience and a soldering gun.

I havent gotten the flashlight yet...it is in the mail, so I havent gotten a chance to pull it apart and look inside, but I have seen pictures of it and the board inside. Im just trying to get the info so I can build it as soon as it comes.

Does anybody have pics?

I've not dealt with the metal gear in some time, but your going to need to use a driver inside the flashlight. You cannot use the existing one onboard as your driver is just a "resistor" and taht's it. You need to regulate current to the laser diode.

Hey,

I have gotten everything put together and the laser works great...but I have no burning action. I have a PHR-803T diode in the flashlight with the resistor that came with the flashlight. Should I take it out and just bridge the connection? Or just a smaller resistor? Can someone help please?

it's impossible to tell you what to do on this one as you need to make sure it's current regulated. No more than say 130ma. that resistor is probably bringing you down to 50ma or so but I've no clue.
