I'm sick of seeing threads referring to "C2" and "M3" and all these other denominations without mentioning the manufacturer name, especially in the title. Worse offenders don't even mention the manufacturer name in the thread itself. Notice that there is more than one company that uses the same name for their products, all of which happen to be illumination tools and realize that things can get confusing. I'm tired of stumbling upon threads where manufacture is not immediately made clear because it makes things hard to search for and differentiate. A year ago we would not have had a problem just saying "C2" because it would have meant Surefire C2 Centurion but now it could mean all sorts of things in a rainbow of dimensions because all sorts of manufacturers are taking advantage of well-known model designations to increase hype and awareness.

I hope you all realize what you are doing, because searching becomes more and more difficult when such a differentiation is not made.

I have to agree also. Like me, not everyone knows every light by it's model No. If interested, I either have to go look it up or I'll just pass on by not knowing what light is being touted... or scorned.

I'm sorry to say that I have been guilty of this at times. In some posts I have written PD or U60 instead of the proper McLux III PD or HDS EDC U60. I forget that there may be new members or lurkers looking for info but having a hard time due to these short forms. Even though there are no other lights by the same designations I really should try to be conscious of all members both seasoned and novice.

I think sometimes it is part laziness due to ease of typing but also there is sometimes a certain inadvertent arrogance from being knowledgeable and trying to show off. It is not intentional but it happens nonetheless. Good thread Carrot. We should keep things clear to make searching and learning easier.

Good call Carrot.

Why can't people be specific about what they're referring to, say, for example "Inova X-1"
Instead of oh.... say, "Inova"? (Which I've seen.)

I heartily agree with you. Just a few minutes ago I saw a sales thread advertising a "Ti A2". Gibbering with anxiety to snap up this unique Surefire Aviator for one of Atomic Chicken's Aviatrix rings, I then noticed in the small print that the "A" in this case was an abbreviation of Aleph. There are far too many threads with unclear and misleading titles.

I thought the title to this thread was ambiguous. :touche: :lolsign:

I tried to warn you...I ranted about the use of acronyms years ago, when an acronym reference dictionary was created (does my post or the reference guide still exist? ..I can't find it..)
...and now you have reaped the whirlwind...
..what does "LED" mean again..?

I was chiding the manufacturer Inova for also being ambiguous. They have released two quite different models and are about to release a third, also quite different. The original X-1 had a 5mm led and an optic [Tiros], the second version has a 5mm led and a reflector, the third version [soon to be released] uses a Luxeon -- but all are called X-1!

Ambiguity, in most forms, can be cleared up with just a little thought and a few extra words.

you make perfect sense carrot....though I rarely made the same mistake myself...

I think your being a little too critical for an issue that has been [unfortunately] accepted by the site so there goes moderator intervention

perhaps someone should post this as an announcement?
