Wandering through the local car part/accessory superstore, I decided that (as usual), it was worth looking in the lighting section. Where I found this, £5.50. Slightly longer than a 2AA Minimag, all aluminium, 2AA cells required, Krypton bulb (spare included, but not kept in the light annoyingly), water resistant according to packaging (not tested yet), adonized finish inside and out, adjustable beam (a bit smoother than a Minimag's), and "clickie" type tail switch, rather than the Minimag type I expected. Adonize in this case is cyan, and appears reasonably durable, it is possible to scratch it with a key, but it takes a fair amount of effort.
Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the light, for the price anyway. Just wondering what it'd be like with an LS in there now...
Only criticisms are that the spare bulb isn't kept in the light, and will most likely become lost in this room, and that the head rotates *slightly* too easily, making it easy to de-focus the beam when using it. Of course, there's the wide-focus black hole, but that I was expecting. The switch seems good. Firm enough to prevent unwanted activation/deactivation, and flicker free.
There are also 2, 3 and (I think) 4 D-cell lights in the same range, might have to investigate them.
In fact, as I said that, found this page. These lights look like good candidate for mods as well as being reasonable in themselves - to me anyway. I'm quite new to this, so don't know how well they compare to other things in this price-range yet.
