the driver board in my 5mw leadlight has died :S , could anyone point me in the right direction to get a new one ?

Thanks

openshaw - first off, I sent you a PM....

secondly, What do you think is wrong with the driverboard, and are you certain it is not a diode issue ? I really do think that it would be less expensive - both in time, and money to just get a new one, unless you zare stubborn, like me - and want to dink around with it to see if you can fix it ! :naughty:

Let us all know how things turn out - and I am interested in the guts of it - body, corpse, whatever you wanna call it - if you decide to replace it !

why not just buy a new 5mw?

or better yet, a 20 or 30 mW! :)

I have a few other 5mW's and a 30mW so im really not that bothered in getting a new one i just thought if i could get a new board relatively cheap , it would be worth fixing , the diode is fine so i will probably screw around with it to see if i can get it going again

post some pics of the driver board - I know you said Leadlight - but it seems like there are an increasing amount of leadlight models out there now - so if you post a pic, maybe someone has one that the diode died in or something and would be willing to hand over the driver board or something ? Just a thought !

Well - I don't SEE any physical issues right off the batt - what exactly is the laser doing/not doing ? Have you at any time adjusted the potentionometer on the board ? Has it been dropped, soaked, left in the sun, etc ? I know - tons of questions !

It just stopped working , i have tested the resistors , the pot and switch , all seems ok , it just wont come on

In it's "dead" condition, does it draw any current when the button is pushed ?? Maybe the current control transistor crapped out. How did you test the LD ?? It may still be a dim LED and not lasing.

i took the LD off of a known working laser and replaced it with the one off this laser and it works fine

There is no current when the button is pressed

Probably a bad switch, these switches are made for intermittent duty of anout 50mA tops, more than that the springs inside loose their temper and it goes dead. bypass the switch and test. If it works you can replace the switch with one ripped out of a dead vcr etc.

openshaw - I "scavenged" some switches off of cd-rom and dvd-rom drives - when I tear them apart for the diodes, I tear EVERYTHING outta them ! The switches are probably the weakest link for the Leadlights...they are pretty rugged little lasers....I am certain that Digi-key sells those switches, too - you just have to have like a $25.00 minimum or something like that...lemme know if you are going to buy from them - I have a few things I could use, and it would help you to reach the minimum order ammt, too !

I think i'm just going to keep the working parts as spares for my other leadlight incase i need anything

thanks for your help :)
