Driving an LED past the max drive current rating..results?

I'm interested in using one of these Cree 3-Ups in a bicycle headlight application. The max drive current is rated at 1000mA. I'm kind of afraid to run them at that, I was thinking more along the lines of a 700mA driver?



Will it hurt to run this with a 1000mA driver? There will be adequate cooling.



Specs on the emitter star:



417 lm @ 350mA

1000mA - Max Drive Current

9.0Vf - Typ. Forward Voltage @ 350mA

6500K - Color Temperature
