can a 2 cell mag led drop in be used in a three cell(c) light? without frying the module?

Terralux ? drop in ? YES , it was made for 2-3cell use .

If it's the Maglite 2 cell dropin, I wouldn't run it with 3 cells.

the mag-branded LED drop-ins each have a circuit optimized for a given cell configuration. Using more cells than specified will almost always guarantee frying the module.

Most after-market modules have a wider input voltage option.
